People can now access easy to understand information about the benefits of HIV treatment.
Developed by Positive Life and the MHAHS, the new online resource outlines 7 good reasons to start treatment now.
"Lack of information about the benefits of HIV treatment, that’s easy to understand, negatively impacts on the health decisions of people with low literacy skills who are diagnosed with HIV," said Craig Cooper, CEO of Positive Life NSW.
“Without this information, people with low literacy skills, who may be also from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds, are more likely to start treatment late and their health suffers,” said Mr Cooper.
"To overcome this, we needed a resource that conveys information in a way that’s easily understood," said Barbara Luisi, Manager of the MHAHS.
“Available in eight languages including English, the resource combines plain language with culturally appropriate images to help initiate patient discussions about the importance of starting treatment as soon as possible. It also addresses privacy and confidentiality, issues important to people from CALD backgrounds,” said Ms Luisi.
