STV Children's Appeal 2015 partners with the RSCDS!
Remember the Commonwealth Ceilidh - all about fun, fitness and community? Everyone with an appetite for more might consider participating in the STV (Scottish Television) Children's Appeal 2015 - and gaining exposure for SCD at the same time!

Having noticed the RSCDS as a result of the media-friendly 2014 Ceilidh, STV approached the RSCDS to be a partner in raising money to help children affected by poverty in Scotland - and New York Branch and London Branch are already on board!

Fundraising is through sponsorship and donations for a well-known Scottish celebrity, Lorraine Kelly (pictured above) to Dance Scottish with participating RSCDS Branches, Affiliated Groups, local businesses and other community groups. TV footage will be shot over the next 3-4 months, culminating in a televised danceathon over the weekend of 11th September.

We are excited and honoured to be a part of this STV Appeal to help help fundraise for children affected by poverty across Scotland. To read the official press release and receive more information about the Appeal, please visit the STV Appeal website.

John Wilkinson, past RSCDS Chairman, has devised a signature dance for the event titled "Kelly's Kaper", which is available for download on the RSCDS website along with a complete overview of this years Appeal, Fundraising Pack/Materials, STV Appeal Posters, Sponsorship Forms, and of course dance materials, so you can join in the fun with Lorraine! Take a look at the instructional video below, which was shot and edited by STV and narrated by John himself!

If you have any questions regarding the involvement of the RSCDS in this years STV Appeal, please get in touch with
Michael Greenwood. Enquiries regarding the Appeal itself can be sent to Ami Anderson, the STV Appeal Campaign Manager.

Thank you for helping us in this worthwhile cause while spreading the positive message of fun, fitness and friendship that is so closely associated with Scottish country dancing.

New Products in the Shop
With the arrival of Summer comes the addition of new items to the RSCDS Shop to help you beat the heat!

Brand new "Fold Up Bottles" are now available for order, and come in five great colours: Blue, Pink, Green, Cyan and Purple. These are perfect for those long days at Summer School, and can even be taken with you on a plane!

Though Summer is all about sun and warmth, those who live in the UK know that the rain never stops, so why not pick up a "Splash Folding Umbrella" to help keep you dry on those rainy days (or ward off the sun rays!)

Summer also means road trips! Pick up an RSCDS "Car Sticker" so when you are out and about travelling, people will know you Dance Scottish!

We have also restocked on many items that will get you ready for the autumn, such as Note Pads, Pier Blue Ball Pens and Pencils, all with the official RSCDS logo.

T-Shirt Design Competition
The RSCDS T-Shirt Design Competition has closed and we have received a ton of entries (including the one pictured above!) It is going to be difficult to pick just two, as all of them deserve a place on an official RSCDS T-Shirt. Thank you to all who have submitted a design. Your hard work and passion for Scottish country dancing is inspiring.

There were two categories and two winners; the competition was open to all, with a special category for under 12's where the winning design will be printed onto children's T-Shirts.

We are going through all of the submissions and will be announcing the winning design by the end of the month via Facebook, Twitter and this Newsletter, so please watch this space or follow us on social media to find out who will be taking home the prizes!

The winning designs will be printed on to T-Shirts and sold at Summer School this year in St. Andrews, with proceeds going to the RSCDS. The winners will receive a gift certificate for the online shop, some great gifts, and of course bragging rights for years to come!

New Editor of the Scottish Country Dancer

Rosemary must be commended for her hard work and dedication to the magazine. During her time as Editor several fantastic issues went out to members around the world and we are grateful to have had Rosemary coordinating the effort.

Updating Member Details on the RSCDS Website
Having a large network of members around the world truly makes the RSCDS (and Scottish country dancing) a global phenomenon; but with this much support there is also the potential for problems and issues, especially with correspondence amongst Branches and members.

Ensuring that our member database is up-to-date and reflects each member's current address and preference, such as receiving the magazine and newsletter, is vital to correspondence between Headquarters, Branches and individual members.

We encourage all members to log in to the RSCDS website and to ensure the information in the database is correct. In order to receive the RSCDS magazine, your address should be your current location, and the box at the bottom of the page labelled "magazine" should be ticked. If you are unsure on how to login to the RSCDS website, or you forget your login information, please get in touch with Michael Greenwood at and he will be happy to assist, or read through the Process Notes on how to update member information here.

In addition, your Branch Secretary will also have access to your details and can update them accordingly.

If your information is not correct, and the magazine box on your details page is not ticked, then you will not be sent a magazine, or perhaps any correspondance from either Headquarters or your local Branch, so please take some time to ensure your details are correct and up-to-date.
