So, we're getting to the pointy end of semester!

No doubt you have a billion assignments, presentations and tests coming up. And let's not forget that mid-year exams are looming in the distance (as much as we'd like to). To give you a hand, we'll start feeding you exam tips and tricks through the newsletters and social media in between all the awesome events we'll run to help you keep your mind refreshed and entertained.

To start with, here's some sensible advice from Dr Andrew Connor, Deputy Head of Orion College:

Cramming is an absolutely terrible way to study, compared to basically any other method. An hour a week for the next six weeks will be a hundred times more useful than six hours of cramming.

Also, if there's something you don't understand, talking to the lecturer or tutor right away (whether after the lecture or in office hours) will be a lot more productive than remaining in ignorance until the night before the exam and then sending a frantic list to the lecturer or tutor.
Remember to log into the Web Enrolment System from
Tuesday April 26th to see your exam timetable for semester one!
The leading clusters from each college are:
Koala Bears, with 400 points,
Bellatrix, with 365 points, and
The Centaur of Attention with 205 points.
Great job guys! Keep up the excellent work 👍

Since last time...

With the rescheduling of Zedtown, your trusty college advisors stepped up to the challenge of organizing some events to keep everyone entertained.

Orion College ran an Amazing Hunt across campus, complete with cryptic clues and prizes for the winning teams-- all of them Centaurs! Crispy Nachos took 1st place, Derek Zoolander Hunting Team for Kids Who Can't Hunt Good and Want to Learn to do Other Stuff Good Too came in 2nd place, and We Can Solve Partial Differential Equations took 3rd place.
Centaurus College made the most of the crowds from the Amazing Hunt by running a BBQ and outdoor movie event immediately afterwards, commandeering the Northern Plaza with a vintage popcorn machine and Captain America: The First Avenger on the big screen.

Not to be outdone, Ursa College took their members to AMF for a colossal night of bowling and laser tag. There were reportedly no competitive injuries or friendships ended over being shot in the back with a laser rifle. Reportedly.

Following its success last year, Orion College's Casino Night was expanded and opened to all three colleges. The stakes were raised, the prizes improved, a Best Dressed competition implemented, and everyone not only rose to the occasion but exceeded all expectations! A wonderful time was had by all.

Despite dozens of beautiful costumes, only a select few made it to the Best Dressed competition, and after much deliberation, Liam McConaghy of Ursa College was awarded the prize. Congratulations to all the other finalists too-- you all looked stunning.

Pictures from the evening can be found on each college's Facebook page, including some bonus vintage-filtered pictures!

Coming up soon...

MRS and the Non Residential Colleges are teaming up to take over Century City for a movie night on Friday April 29th, at 6:30pm.

For just $10 you can see the brand new Marvel offering Captain America: Civil War. You can purchase your ticket here until ticket sales close at 12pm on the 26th. (Due to the discounted price there are no refunds).

Ursa College is organising a Random Acts of Kindness event, where college members sign up to put a smile on the face of another Bear. By giving a small gift or care package to someone, you can brighten their day and keep them positive throughout the trying times of the semester. Gifts could range from an assortment of sweets or stationery, to something uniquely meaningful to a particular Bear.

Once you sign up, you will be allocated a Bear to purchase for, and you will receive a random act of kindness in return from someone else. Spending limit for gifts is $10 - $15.

Sign-ups close Friday April 29th, and you will receive your allocation by Tuesday May 3rd.
