This past spring, HOPES hosted its largest and most successful conference yet! The wide range of speakers provided audience members new perspectives through which to approach and better understand HD.

Our HD Conference (April 23) featured the following speakers:
  • Dr. Michael Geschwind, MD, PhD – professor of neurology at the University of California, San Francisco School of Medicine who gave an overview and update regarding HD clinical trials.
  • Kate McGovern – author of Rules for 50/50 Chances, a piece of young adult fiction about one girl's decision to get genetically tested for HD. Kate answered questions regarding the challenge and process of writing young adult fiction about a medical condition, in this case HD.
  • Dr. Areerat Suputtitada, MD – professor in Rehabilitation Medicine, physician, and researcher from Chulalongkorn University in Bangkok, Thailand who spoke about the use of visual and auditory cueing devices to improve gait performance in patients with neurodegenerative disease.
For over a year, the HDSA has hosted a series of monthly webinars during which international leaders in HD research present updates on their work. To make these 30-40 minute presentations textually accessible, HOPES has started summarizing HDSA Webinars on our website. To read about the role of the Federal Drug Administration (FDA) in the larger HD community, check out our latest HDSA webinar summary by clicking here.
This past May, HOPES hosted SnapShots, an art gallery show highlighting the stories of individuals affected by HD. To see more of the artwork and stories, click here.
