Mentoring & Coaching Update

Hi Everyone,

July, August and soon September are behind us already. It has been a quiet period for the Hub. Like everyone else in the MSF movement, we are busy looking at activities and plans for 2020 and beyond.

Let’s celebrate a recent achievement: on the 11th of September, we ran a webinar to present the final report of a 2-year research on the impact of mentoring. The short report describes how mentoring is impacting not only the mentees, but also the mentors, and MSF as an organisation. Only 9 pages, light and easy to read!

We are launching a series of webinar part of the CPD for mentors. They will be facilitated by Agnese Pinto (Mentoring Programme Manager) and Julie Haddock-Millar, the researcher who worked on the Mentoring Impact of evaluation and other studies. Confirmed dates for 2019 are October 22nd, November 27th, December 17th. Invitations will follow soon.

Enough about the Hub activities: please, find below a few articles you might find interesting and inspiring. One way of learning is definitely in reading others experience and tips. Reflect on it with your mentor/mentee/coach/coachee. Try out yourself if this or that can work for you. And it doesn’t, then well done, you’ve learnt something! See also the results of the mini-survey you might have participated to last June.

(Un)comfortable learning

Is learning supposed to feel uncomfortable? You have to be willing to feel embarassement, failure, and awkwardness to keep learning.
(Un)comfortable Listening

Everyone wants to be heard, yet not everyone is listening. 17 reasons people aren't listening to you, and an attempt at adressing it.
(Un)confortable conversations

Interview with an experienced leader and manager about the art of difficult conversations, and how to reframe them.

Survey results

We asked you in June if you preferred using video calls, and how feasable these are in the field. There is no winner between video call and a call without video. Internet in the field seems too slow for satisfying video calls. This helps us low-prioritizing the addition of a video call component in the Digital Logbook for example.
