Mentoring & Coaching Hub Update

Hi everyone,
First newsletter since the last summer. This Fall period has been a busy one, as for everyone in MSF planning 2019 activities and Budget.
End of last September, Alain Rias has left his position as OCB Mentoring programme manager. Lindis Hurum took over ad-interim since mid-October. This programme manager position shall be filled by next January.
Let me share and celebrate recent success and achievement, and announce next key events.

  • In September and October, 2 new cohorts of the Mentoring Workshop took place respectively in France (Vosges) and Spain (Barcelona). The pool of MSF mentors continues to grow, with amazing and committed colleagues.
  • Since august, we have started to support the 5 OCs Coaching activities, by matching coaches from our Cohort 1, with requesting colleagues (HQ and field. The intake is now gearing up.
  • Check the event agenda in our MCHub website for coming events.

Dear MSF mentors and coaches, you are doing amazing contribution, while listening, caring and supporting our leaders, allowing them to grow, and shift to their next level. All over the MSF movement, more people (users and decision-makers) are asking for more mentoring and coaching activities for 2019 and beyond. I believe it is mainly due to your volunteerism and strong commitment as mentor and coaches.

Merci, et chapeau-bas Mesdames et Messieurs.

A project for inclusion of persons with disabilities
May your mentee or coachee face issues related to inclusion and diversity, it is good to know that the TIC project on inclusion of persons with disabilities has just opened its portal (in French, English and Arabic!). Definitely worth the visit! You will particularly find there a short 4’ video on inclusion of persons with disabilities. The beauty of the approach is that, though focusing on a specific group (persons with disabilities), it presents an approach which goes much over this group, therefore opening the reflection on inclusion in general.

We all need feedback, both positive and of the other kind, to help us grow and go. CHeck out this article on "conversations that promote growth".

No matter how effective the coaches may be, we acknowledge that some managers and leaders might just not be ready to be coached. This article gives us 4 signs an executive isn't ready for coaching.

Combining both mentoring and coaching approaches, David Clutterbuck recently wrote a nice piece on how to capitalize on conflicts. Highly recommended.

Change is a (long) process with identified stages. Is there a model for change? Yes, means the author of this article, who argues for 5 identifiable steps in personal change and development.
