Mentoring & Coaching Update

Hi Everyone,

Without any doubt, 2020 has been a different and challenging year for many. We have all been forced to make huge changes in the ways we live our everyday life and in the ways we work, and the Mentoring&Coaching Hub is no different. Yet, in the midst of all the challenges, changes and uncertainties, new possibilities have also arisen, and 2020 has given us creative adaptions and ways of thinking differently.
Our Online Introduction to Mentoring Workshops continue to be a success, with a new module on   psycho-social mentoring issues and a revised module on cultural diversity called "Mentoring Across Cultures". In November, we also offered our first online Coaching Skills Workshop, after running 5 in-person Coaching Skills Workshops at the beginning of 2020. As a response to Covid-19, short-term coaching was made available to MSF's global workforce, especially to staff whose work situation was drastically impacted by the pandemic. Meanwhile, we received 6 new team coaching requests, and 5 team coaching processes were continued or started, including online team coaching as a support to the OCB Southern Africa Field Recentralization Project. This year, the Team Coaching Impact Evaluation study was also concluded.

In 2021, we commit ourselves at the Mentoring&Coaching Hub to continue to design innovative mentoring and coaching services, while the focus of the delivery of our services will be to be inclusive, diverse and accessible. We will continue to document our activities, analyzing and redesigning on the basis of evolving needs.

However, before diving into the new year, we want to use this opportunity to wish you, your families and all of MSF the all best for 2021! May we move through the potential challenges together and may we find ways to learn and grow from all new experiences that the year will bring. A very Happy New Year from all of us to all of you!

REMINDER: if you are interested to know more about upcoming Mentoring & Coaching Hub events (workshops, opportunities for professional development, etc), do check our agenda here.

In November, Torrey from Aid for Aid Workers hosted Mansoor Ali (MCHub Coordinator, mentor) and Anaïs Prudent (OCP Emergency Coordinator, mentee) in her leadership podcast to talk about what successful mentoring looks like, and how to create it. Happy listening!

At the Mentoring&Coaching Hub, we were shocked and sad to learn of the sudden passing of Munyaradzi Kadzimu on January 5th, 2021, after a short illness.
Munya was Deputy LogCo in Zimbabwe and a valued member of the OCB pool of mentors, attending the Mentoring Workshop in Egmond, Netherlands in February 2020 and the LogCo Coaching Skills Workshop in Brussels in June 2019.
His mentees will remember Munya for his warm and welcoming character, while his fellow mentors will miss his good humor and ready laugh.
