News in Brief

Huxhams Cross farm featured in Permaculture Magazine, where Marina discusses how we designed the farm. Read the full article here

So much has been done at the farm this winter. We have planted over 2,000 trees, and the same again soft fruit plants. We have fenced off the rabbits, installed a caravan to house our tools and to make tea / provide shelter for our volunteers. We got planning permission for our barn, to be put up this spring. We found a an old 15,000 litre water tank, an invaluable resource that has enabled us to create an innovative cold frame to raise plants.

The Apricot Centre team could not have done this without help from our amazing volunteers, so a big thank you to them for all your help building this infrastructure around the farm that will set us up to provide great fresh food in the years to come.
Events and Volunteering

On Saturday 14th May, we invite you to join in with a biodynamic stirring and spraying. See the pic above for details. No experience required, please bring along any spraying equipment if you have any, household mist sprayers are fine, as well as knapsack sprayers. We have some to lend out for the day.

Working Wednesdays continues as ever, see the flier below. Please note that there is no volunteer day on Wednesday May 4th as Bob is busy, so the volunteer day will be on Friday May 6th for this week only. We'll continue to remind you with our regular Facebook updates.

John Allan is going to be helping us with bird surveys at the farm this spring. Volunteers are welcome but it does need to be someone who can recognise bird songs as that is how we identify most. These are weather dependent and there will be at most 1 weeks notice, so if you are interested in this let me know and i'll email you when we have dates.

Open Farm Sunday 5th June 2016

Some of the tenant farmers at Dartington are joining forces to offer a farm trail across the estate. Expect goat milking, cream teas, and cake! At Huxhams Cross we will be offering farm tours and more. There will be a special map to help navigate the rather lovely walk from the main estate to us.
