'Portraits of a Town'
Newfield Galleries, Newark
Preview: Fri 29 May, 6-8pm
Exhibition: 30 May - 13 June
I'd like to invite you to the Preview for my latest exhibition, 'Portraits of a Town' at the Newfield Galleries in Newark - linked to Open Studios Notts. The preview is this Friday 29 May, from 6-8pm, with wine & nibbles. If you are able to come along it would be lovely to see you - the gallery is on Boar Lane opposite the Gilstrap Centre (next to 'The Ram' bar & brasserie).
The exhibition then runs for two weeks. The core of the exhibition is a series of paintings of Newark-on-Trent - 'portraits' of the town. There is so much of visual interest to draw from in and around Newark and the more I study it, the more is revealed to me. A favourite view, reproduced above, looks along Kirk Gate towards St Mary’s Church, in this case in the afterglow of a sunny late afternoon. In this light, brick buildings radiate orange and salmon pinks whilst grey stone paving slabs respond to the warmth of the brickwork and the cooler blues of the sky, resulting in almost iridescent pastel shades.
