News Update - November 24, 2016

The countdown to Christmas gets fully underway tonight (Thursday).

The town’s Christmas lights will be switched on during a fun-filled community evening with music and special guests in the town centre.

Events are due to start at 5.30 p.m. Expect the switch-on to take place in the High Street around 6.50 p.m. A full run-down on the night is on the Christmas in Queensferry Facebook page.

The festive fun continues this weekend, with the annual Christmas Shopping Fair at Hopetoun House running from Friday to Sunday.

There will also be a Christmas Fayre and Coffee Morning at Queensferry Parish Church this Saturday morning.

Meanwhile, a week from today (Thursday, December 1) the town will host a late-night shopping event, with stores open until 9 p.m. Look out for special offers, pop-up shops (within shops), and some surprises.

All these events wouldn’t happen without the hard work of community groups, businesses and some great volunteers. Thanks to everyone for making Christmas in Queensferry special.

We're supporting the festivities by publishing the new Festive Ferry magazine. It's been distributed around the town. You can also view a copy online here.

We've been informed that some of the church services at St. Margaret's are different from those listed. Check with the Church for the dates/times. We apologise for any confusion.

To support the Christmas Lights Switch-on, there's no parking in the High Street until 9 p.m. today. Part of the High Street – from the Anchor Inn to the Council / Queensferry Ambition offices - will also be closed to traffic (except for pedestrians and emergency vehicles) tomorrow night (Friday, November 25) from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. on Saturday to allow cable works to take place.

The City of Edinburgh Council is hosting a drop-in event at the Roseberry Hall in the town centre this Friday, November 25, from 10 am. to noon. No need to book, just turn up and share your views. Officers are keen to establish develop new, community priorities leading up to 2022 and want to hear from local people.

More Queensferry area businesses are supporting Forth One’s Mission Christmas appeal – fundraising and collecting gifts for needy young people this yuletide. Last week we revealed how Ferguson Carpets and Flooring in Dalmeny and the Hawes Inn were backing the campaign.

Harry Ramsdens in Newhalls Road; Maisie’s and Once Upon a Time in the High Street; Queensferry Primary School; The Three Bridges Takeaway in Ferrymuir Gait; Tesco’s; and Craigie’s Farm are also acting as drop-off points. Talking of Queensferry High … the High School is hosting its Christmas Concert in the school on Thursday, December 8, from 7 p.m. Tickets priced £6 (£4 for concessions) will be available from the school office, or music department, from Monday, November 28.
The Terrace, Health and Beauty, on Rosebery Avenue, held a successful open day event on Saturday. We're glad it went well. If you’re hosting a special event, let us know about it. That’s it for this week. If you’re going to the lights switch-on tonight, wrap up warm, support our local businesses, and have a great time.

Finally, remember Queensferry Ambition is here for ALL our members across the local area, not just in the town centre. If you want to promote new products or services, or access support and advice, get in touch. Email:
