Welcome to our May Digital Newsletter!

This spring our theme is Flourish. More than comfort or success, flourishing from God's perspective is about something more rooted in faith and less contingent on comfort and ease. Flourishing that comes from God is found in desert places and wilderness as much as it can be found in the warm, sunny spring days that we believe are coming to Minnesota (soon!) On Sunday, April 24 Pastor Mike reminded us of the words of scholar Neale Katherine Macdonald who describes flourishing as being "based on the physical and spiritual interconnectedness or mutuality. Mutuality. . . that forms the basis of flourishing, creates relationship as opposed to hierarchy."

It's our hope that the contents of this newsletter are invitations to that kind of flourishing -- found in relationship with Jesus, with one another, and with our world. Each of these opportunities are possibilities of deepening relationships and connections: from celebrating our Confirmands and affirming their place in our faith community, to breaking down boxes at Fruit of the Vine Food Shelf, to participating in Team World Vision's 6K for Water, and everything in between. This newsletter has all of those opportunities and more - join us as we practice flourishing together this May!
SUNDAYS
We gather in person for worship at 9:30am every Sunday. Our worship service is available in person and live-streamed on First Covenant's YouTube page.

Just for kids:
  • Nursery open and staffed for birth - 4 year olds
  • Children's Church for PreK - 2nd graders during the worship service (kids are typically dismissed before the sermon and return to caregivers during the final song or before communion). There is no Children's Church on Sunday, May 1.
After worship stay for Fellowship Time! Our Spiritual Growth Hours have concluded for the program year, but that doesn't mean that you have to rush home when service ends. Each week volunteers brew coffee and serve treats for you to enjoy as you connect with others in Upper Fellowship Hall. Interested in helping to serve at Fellowship Time? Sign up at the link below.

This spring, change a life! Join us in our 6k with friends from First Covenant and advocates across the globe in our mission to bring life-changing clean water and fullness of life to children in communities around the world. Walk, run, or push a stroller with us at the World Vision Global 6K for Water on May 21, 2022. Each registration provides lasting clean water to a child, like the child on your race bib! Leashed dogs are welcomed!

It takes a team to make this event happen. Whether you can complete a 6K or not, there's a place for you to help, and in doing so you'll help make a difference for people across the globe.

MULCH PARTY!
Tuesday, May 24 at 6:30pm

First Covenant Church of Saint Paul
Why do flowerbeds have mulch? So you can't see their underplants!
All kidding aside, save the date for this year's mulch party to get First Covenant's garden beds ready for the spring and summer. Bring a shovel and some gloves and join us on the parking lot as we move and spread a new load of mulch for the year. Questions? Let Pam Feske know.
We're already anticipating Graduation Sunday with four things you need to know NOW to make sure you're ready to celebrate our grads! Make sure that you have the following dates on your calendars, if you have any questions please contact Aaron Nosich at aaron@first-covenant.org.
  1. Graduation Sunday is Sunday, June 12. It will be an outdoor worship service at 9:30am.
  2. On Graduation Sunday we'll be celebrating our high school, university, or other educational programs. If you or someone in your family is graduating this year, please contact the church office at office@first-covenant.org by Sunday, May 15.
  3. Our high school graduates receive an NIV Study Bible as their graduation present. At First Covenant, we make sure that children and youth have access to God's Word at appropriate, developmental levels. We are excited to have the FCC community highlight and note key life verses in these Bibles before they're given to our grads -- wherever their next chapter takes them, this meaningful gift from their church family helps remind them of their belonging in the bigger picture of our community. Bibles will be available to highlight in Upper Fellowship Hall from Sunday, May 15 - Sunday, June 5.
  4. This year we're introducing Adopt-A-Grad. Adopt-a-Grad is a really simple idea…high school graduates from FCC are matched with a person or family from our church who will pray for and encourage them during their first post-high school year. So, if you are a graduate and would like to be prayed for and supported in the next year by an FCC individual or family, click on the "adoptee" links below and return your form to Aaron Nosich. If you or your family is interested in supporting a graduate through prayer and encouragement, check out the "adopter" information below and return the form to Aaron Nosich. You'll be hearing more about this opportunity in worship on Sunday, May 8.
