Dear friends of Home and Family,

We hope you’re all very well. We are, and pleased to see the end of winter. (Goodbye chapped lips, hello hayfever!) With the lovely long summer ahead of us, we’ve got a couple of outdoor events planned which we’re very excited about - more on that, and much more, below.

Ringing the changes

It’s been a busy few weeks at Home & Family. The wonderful Sophie Deegan left for new horizons and we’ve been joined by Fiona Lapworth and Eve Wingerath. Fiona has joined our administrative team and Eve is the new Fundraising Manager. We’ve also been getting to know the lovely team at Refocus - Tane, Anna, Sofia, Kevin and Daniell.

We’ve finally moved premises, having outgrown our Hereford Street offices, and are now based at 76 Thackeray Street in Waltham. The move was a huge job, but our new offices are looking fabulous. Special thanks to Deb Marsh and her partner Tim, who went above and beyond the call of duty to make the move smooth for us all. And a big thank you also to Fahey Fence Hire, Graham Rose Window Treatments and Adgraphix for our blinds and signage. We’re still luxuriating in all the space - get in touch if you’d like to pay us a visit, we’d love to show you around and make you a cuppa.

Thank you Chrystal!

On Monday 16 October, our ambassador Chrystal Chenery will be running the celebrity leg of the Parnell Waiters' race in Auckland. She's bravely running through Fraser Park with a loaded tray of wine for Home & Family. We look forward to hearing how she goes. Thank you Chrystal and best of luck!

A huge and heartfelt thank you

We are utterly delighted to have been gifted exclusive naming rights to the Junior Free For All race on cup day at Addington Raceway.

This generous donation comes from local businesses Fahey Fencing, Adgraphix and Rockcote. Their directors really recognise the importance of the work Home & Family does for families and young people in Christchurch.

Everyone at the charity is blown away by the generosity of these local business owners and cannot wait for Cup Day. On behalf of all the staff and families, Executive Director Val extends “a heartfelt thank you” to each of them.

Media Stars!

Home & Family have been on air a lot recently. In August, our parenting programme was featured on Christchurch Dilemmas. Last month Cheryl O’Neill and Sandra Talbot spoke on Plains FM about family violence and intergenerational change. Just yesterday, Cheryl spoke on CTV News about the demand for counselling for school age children. Well done to our media stars Sandra and Cheryl!

Upcoming fundraising events

We are most excited to tell you all about two new fundraising events:

On 18 November 2016, we will be having our inaugural golf tournament out at Clearwater. The event is being kindly by Stadium Cars. Please click here for more information and if you’d like to enter a team, book now to avoid disappointment.

On 21 January 2017, we’ll have our first football tournament. As well as being an opportunity for corporate teams from across Christchurch to have fun competing against each other whilst raising money for Home & Family, it should be a wonderful family fun day. Click here for more details and watch out for your invitation.

Both events are perfect for the summer and we hope to see you there. Rest assured, we will be continuing with our oh-so-popular Dancing With The Stars and we'll be in touch soon about a smaller dancing fundraiser, which some wonderful Event Management interns from Ara Institute are planning for us.

Watch out for...

Phew, that’s almost it! We’ll be in touch very soon though, to tell you all about our next events and the opportunity to become a regular giver, which will soon be available through our website.
