Thank You, Googlers!

Our three months of coaching with the Google for Nonprofits program came to an end last week. Hard to convey our gratitude, especially for their coaching on AdWords to promote CivCity's! (Spending time at the firm's super-cool local office was pretty fun, too.) Thanks to Google staffers Cora Fowler & Matt Mallon for their expertise, patience and good humor!

We wrap up by looking back at CivCity's Party at the Polls during the August primary election. We'll be doing it again on Nov. 8 at the Slauson polling location, 1019 W. Washington in Mighty Ward 5. We hope you'll join us for games, food and music to celebrate democracy!

You might have noticed that we've amped up our e-newsletters to once a week. Hey, it's election season! So much to talk about. But don't worry – we'll go back to our usual monthly schedule after Nov. 8.

Many people I know are already voting absentee. Michigan requires that you give a reason, and here are the ones that qualify:

1) 60 years of age or older

2) absent from the community on Election Day

3) physically unable to vote at the polls without assistance of another person

4) unable to attend the polls because of religious beliefs

5) appointed a poll worker in a precinct other than your own

6) confined to jail awaiting trial or arraignment

If any of these reasons apply to you, you can vote absentee! You need to fill out an application (here's one for Ann Arbor voters), send it to your local clerk's office, then they'll send you the ballot. You can request an absentee ballot by mail until Saturday, Nov. 5, or in person until 4 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 7.

Of course check out our site to help you prep for local & state races and ballot proposals.

Many thanks to CivCIty's supporters, who are helping us build a community of super-informed voters!
