Welcome to the CivCity Update! You'll find news on upcoming events, the May 3 election, our awesome Twitter feed – and more!

Come Talk to Us!

On Thursday, March 31, CivCity is hosting a Center for Michigan "Community Conversation" from 7-8:30 p.m. at the Workantile in downtown Ann Arbor.

The focus will be on how we can restore public trust in state government. Please add your voice by joining us to discuss this timely, relevant concern. The event is free. Click here to RSVP and we hope to see you there!

(Is this Center for Michigan image a politician getting ready to lie or a voter hoping he can trust politicians? Fingers crossed!)

Register to Vote:
April 4 Deadline

Yes, there's another local election coming up! On May 3, voters in Washtenaw County will weigh in on a ballot proposal to fund support services for students with special needs. If approved, it would increase the tax for special education by 1.5 mills annually for 10 years. The funds are administered by the Washtenaw Intermediate School District.

Click here to read the ballot proposal. More information is also on the WISD website.

To vote on May 3, you must be registered by April 4. Not sure if you're registered to vote? Check this site to find out. And if you need to register, here's a link to the application form.

And One Final Shout Out

Thanks to Sarah Bush of Bali Ha'i Dreams for helping promote the March 8 primary election! Sarah put out signs every day for a week prior to the election, reminding people who walked past the Workantile in downtown Ann Arbor to vote. Awesome!

What if everyone found a way to publicize elections and get informed about candidates? One more way to help transform our civic culture!
2016 is definitely the Year of Elections – we've got another local ballot proposal on May 3, with a looming April 4 deadline if you haven't registered to vote. (You'll find more on that elsewhere in this newsletter.)

At CivCity, we're working to build a more informed electorate, especially for the important local August primary and November general election. We'll have some exciting news regarding that effort soon, so stay tuned!

Meanwhile, I'm off to celebrate spring by cleaning out a stormdrain. How about you?

– Mary Morgan, CivCity Founder & Executive Director
