Coming Soon: AnnArborVotes.org

We're working hard to build a knock-your-socks-off voter resource focused on local candidates and ballot proposals. AnnArborVotes.org will be launching next month – stay tuned!

A peek at the still-under-construction AnnArborVotes.org.
Special thanks to The Buhr Foundation for helping fund this effort!

Welcome, Meghan!

We're thrilled that Meghan Cuneo, a senior at the University of Michigan, is CivCity's first intern.

She's already working on several projects: 1) a "Welcome to the Neighborhood" brochure for new residents, with a focus on civic information; 2) an Adopt-A-Poll pilot project for the Aug. 2 election, to show how Election Day can be a celebration; and 3) a strategic plan for promoting local civic engagement within the university's Greek community, in partnership with the UM Ginsberg Center.

Meghan studies political science, women's studies and marketing. Please say hello if you see her around town!

Registration Deadline: July 5

July 5 is the deadline to register for the Aug. 2 primary. In addition to candidates for local office, the ballot for Ann Arbor voters will include two tax proposals: A city sidewalk and street millage, and the general operating millage for Washtenaw Community College.

To find out if you're registered or to download a registration form, check out the Michigan Votes website. Please ask your friends, family and colleagues to do the same!

Bonus points if you're still reading! How about sharing this newsletter with your friends, family & colleagues to add a little civic sauce to their day? We'd appreciate it!
I'm a big fan of this quote that's attributed to Abraham Lincoln: "Elections belong to the people. It's their decision. If they decide to turn their back on the fire and burn their behinds, then they will just have to sit on their blisters."

I'm generally skeptical of quotes attributed to famous people – especially when I can't track down the original source – but I'd like to believe Lincoln actually said it. As we careen toward elections this summer and fall, I certainly share the sentiment.

Let's not be defeated by cynicism and apathy – now more than ever.
