Welcome to the CivCity Update! You'll find news on the March 8 ballot, our partnership with the A2 Film Festival, connecting with neighborhoods, a "Community Conversation" with the Center for Michigan  – and more!

Vote on March 8!

The ballot on Tuesday, March 8 isn't just for presidential primaries. Voters in Washtenaw County will weigh in on a countywide tax proposal to renew a millage for local emergency communications. And if you live in Pittsfield Township, you'll also vote on a 10-year renewal of a parks millage. Click here to read the ballot proposals.

Ann Arbor Film Festival Community Partner

CivCity is excited to be participating in the 54th Ann Arbor Film Festival as a community partner for "The Prison in 12 Landscapes," a documentary by Brett Story. The screening is on March 17 at 9:15 p.m. in the Michigan Theater's Screening Room. Click here to watch a trailer for the film.

The Ann Arbor Film Festival is the longest-running independent and experimental film festival in North America. The 54th AAFF takes place March 15-20, 2016 and presents over 200 films, videos and performances from more than 20 countries with dozens of U.S., North American and world premieres. Check out for details. Hope to see you there!

Connecting with Neighborhoods

In northeast Ann Arbor, the Orchard Hills-Maplewood Homeowners Association – one of the largest neighborhood groups in Ann Arbor – is building community in many ways. At their February meeting, OHMHA board members discussed plans for an April 17 community forum, their June annual meeting, projects at the Thurston Nature Center and more. We applaud the work of neighborhood volunteers who are making Ann Arbor a more informed, engaged community!

United Way's

Volunteer Center!

Have you checked out the online Volunteer Center, hosted by the United Way of Washtenaw County? It's a great way find volunteer opportunities that match your interests and availability. CivCity is one of many organizations that use the site to seek volunteers – we recently joined, and will be posting more ways for volunteers to help promote civic engagement in the coming months. Thanks to United Way for this community resource!
