Findlay Creek Community Association
June 2022

This month we're looking forward to our warm weather events! Keep an eye out for Zumba in the Park scheduled for Sunday, June 26th. Check for updates on time and exact location our social media. In this newsletter we'll recap the Findlay Creek Garage Sale and highlights around our community.

President's Corner

Dear Findlay Creek Community Association Members,

And the countdown to the official first day of summer begins. Only 7 more day to go!!

Among the many items the board has been reviewing, planning, managing; one item on the list in discussion right now is the FCCA yearly household membership. We understand a lot has changed and grown since Findlay Creek was first developed. We want your input on whether we should keep the $25 yearly household membership or remove it. Please keep an eye out for a survey requesting your feedback.

Now, off to grab some sun and a coffee. Enjoy this beautiful weather, but always be careful of the UV rays and protect yourself.

Annual Spring Garage Sale

Thank you to everyone who volunteered their time to participate in the garage sale! We'd like to thank Trigon Insurance for popping by to hand out reusable shopping bags and to Munchies N'More food truck for opening for the day and holding a raffle.

The Interactive Map was a huge success, so we'd like to extend our thanks to Brenda Mason for gathering all the registrations and making that available to everyone.

Stay tuned for our Fall Garage Sale that is schedule for Saturday, September 10th 2022.

The Power Outage from "Derecho"

The storm on May 21st reached winds as fast as 190 km/h. Many of us were out of power for two or more days. Hydro continues to work to to stabilize the grid. If anyone sees any downed power lines, we are warned to please keep a 10 meter distance and notify them online or by phone at 613 738-0188

The City of Ottawa has mentioned to us that they're doing their best to get to the grass in parks, medians and roadways and ask for our patience while they catch up following the storm clean up.

In happy news: a resident messaged us following the chaotic events with a story with a happy ending and a great example of neighbours looking out for each other!

"I would like to send huge thanks to a kind neighbour called Nick who found my dog wandering on Findlay Creek Dr. I have a fenced and secured yard but somehow the gate was left open. It’s times like this during the recent storm that neighbours come out to help one another. So grateful to being a part of this community." -Carole on Long Point Circle

This is the "feisty and adventurous" Krispy, the 14 year old Shiba Inu. Carole also said, "This is also a good reason for people to register their pets with the city even though she is microchipped."
Answer: B

St James Anglican Church on the corner of Leitrim Road and Bank Street is over 150 years old! The original church building opened in 1860.
