#IndependentsDay

July 4th is marked as Independence Day in America, here we will be celebrating Independents Day. Few towns and cities in the UK have the diversity of independent venues that Brighton boasts; nor the loyal following.

Since lockdown, we have continued to shout loud and proud about the food and drink scene. This is for one simple marketing objective - to maintain our presence. Many venues may have not known what to say to their customers during the past month, how to appear relevant, but that’s okay - we’ve been holding the torch for you.
  • Over the past week, we have noticed traffic to Restaurants Brighton increase by 17.3%
  • Sessions on Restaurants Brighton has increased by 18.4%
  • And the duration spent on our pages has increased by 40.7%

Shelter Hall

The eagerly awaited Shelter Hall, part of the Kingsway Arches development, will be opening on July 4th, bringing 70 new jobs to the city and providing pop-up spaces for local start-up and SMEs operating on a rotational basis.

We caught up with Phil Bartley of The Great British Charcuterie who is one of the first to take up a residency in the premises.

  • Potjies - large South African cauldrons for cooking stews, stocks and sauces
  • Infiernillo - cooking between two sources of heat
  • Smokers - hot and cold smokers
  • Chapa - cast iron griddles that sit above the fire
  • Asados - cast iron crucifixes for cooking whole lambs/sides of pork
  • Grills
  • Plenty of outdoor space for safe distancing

Since opening Woodfire has been featured in The Times, The Guardian and BBC Good Food and are fully booked for the 2020 summer period. Woodfire would like to invite venues who are struggling to open under current safety guidelines to get in contact with them for free use of the space, either as one-off pop-up or residencies.
