The Peter Cole Award
To honour past Deputy Head Peter Cole and his contribution to International House, Council has established the Peter Cole Award for a current resident of IH.
We are so thankful for Peter's work at International House over the past eleven years. He lives on in the minds and actions of so many he taught, mentored and guided through their youth and emerging adulthood.
Peter had such a commitment to the values of International House. He welcomed and affirmed diversity and saw every student as unique and full of their own wonderful potential. He knew IH, he loved IH, he lived IH.
Peter loved working with young people and guiding them to achieve their academic and personal goals. He would sit down with those who weren’t quite as focused as they might be, and ask what was happening, were they homesick, were they having trouble settling into a routine – he cared so much about his students. He also instilled a love of learning and a curiosity for finding about other people’s lives.
Peter could motivate, persuade and negotiate with students, and very quickly gained the respect of all. He always had time for students and they always were treated with compassion. Perhaps the best of all answers to Peter’s loss is the continuing affirmation of the lives he would want us all to live.
