Arts Through Community: A Celebration of VAPAE's Afterschool Art Programs

One Minute Documentary - MASA Program

VAPAE enters December with an invitation to all of you to celebrate with all of us.

Please join us December 13, 2017 from 4pm - 6pm to view artworks on display created by students and Teaching Artists of our Afterschool and Arts Enrichment Programs, to enjoy refreshments and food together, and spend time with one another during this holiday season.

As December begins, VAPAE prepares for a busy month filled with promising opportunities for the New Year. Our students in the Arts Education Teaching Sequence will be moving on to lesson development + implementation of curriculum in classrooms throughout Los Angeles.

Congratulations to Teaching Artists Yue Wang and Lily Raven Leon at Coeur d'Alene for wrapping up a successful ten-week arts enrichment pilot program! Celebration and displays of artworks will be at the school's annual Holiday Bazaar on Thursday, Dec 16th. Check out Emerson's newsletters on our website here. New and returning Afterschool and Arts Enrichment programs will take place at Venice High School and Ad Astra at SpaceX; new and familiar partnerships that VAPAE is beyond excited for.

UCLA VAPAE Students in Arts Ed 101: Arts In Corrections Practicum will be celebrating their culminating event Narratives of Agency
, Monday, December 11th, where students facilitate an interdisciplinary arts survey for incarcerated students at the Barry J. Nidorf Juvenile Hall Compound, who receive UCLA Extension credit for their participation. Featuring original poetry, choreography, visual art, physical theater and more, Narratives of Agency showcases the creative work of this pilot cohort, examining the role of agency in artistic practice, community building, and personal transformation.

VAPAE catches up with Laurel Butler, lecturer of Dance 165: Foundations of Dance Education, an upcoming course happening this winter quarter that is a course not to be missed. This course will explore different theories and pedagogies related to Dance Education, developing rigorous and informed curricula to implement at all levels of schooling in the community. Enroll now - spots are limited!

As a closing note, we want to encourage you to give to VAPAE this Tuesday, or any Tuesday, to support the two-fold VAPAE mission to provide experiential learning opportunities for our UCLA students and bring much needed arts curricula to local schools.

We look forward to seeing you at our first-ever gallery December 13th.
Happy Holidays from the VAPAE team.
