Happy New Year 2018
Successful New Year's Resolutions, anyone? A lot of VAPAE's resolutions are already happening.
In fact, VAPAE entered 2018 hitting the ground running, literally!

VAPAE students are currently observing and teaching at 21 school sites in the greater Los Angeles area.
Our AETS cohorts are simultaneously observing classrooms to create unique curricula and implementing their original arts-based lessons in these schools. Students of Dance 165 are now holding class with elementary, middle, and high school students with dance pedagogy put into action.

Afterschool and Arts Enrichment Programs are experimenting with deeper concepts and ideas, including building mini-utopias at Emerson Community Charter Middle School, wooden families at MASA, and self-exploration at PhotoVoice at Venice High School. The creative process is fruitful - resulting in some stellar works featured on our Instagram and Facebook pages.

The first Teaching Artist of the Month in this new year is Amanda Sutton, a 4th year Art major at UCLA who is a Teaching Artist for the Afterschool Program at Emerson and our Classroom-in-Residence at the Hammer - check out her interview on our tumblr page!

Our Teaching Artists and Movement Specialist, Sara Simon, Amanda Sutton, and Jessi Pontillas will begin pre-residency lessons next week at Hamisaki Elementary School and Arlington Heights Elementary School for the Classroom-in-Residence at the Hammer Program. VAPAE is looking forward to hosting these students at the Hammer and on the UCLA campus in March!

VAPAE also looks forward to presenting its first-ever Teaching Artist Professional Development Workshop with VAPAE Lecturer, Laurel Butler, on February 24th. We aim to be responsive to our Teaching Artists by having a day filled with skill-building, constructive conversations, and activities to flex our teaching muscles. Please RSVP to Program Coordinator Amorette Muzingo at amorettem@arts.ucla.edu
