Aberdeen Local Development Plan

May 2020
COVID-19 Coronavirus update
Due to the current Covid-19 (Coronavirus) pandemic, non-essential Council staff including our team are currently working remotely. Due to this, email is the most reliable form of communication. We are trying to provide as normal a service as possible via this medium. We would ask for your understanding if our response is delayed, as many of our colleagues are dealing with the consequences of the pandemic.
Proposed Plan - Consultation 20 May to 31 August 2020
The Proposed Aberdeen Local Development Plan, Proposed Delivery Programme and associated background documents were presented to and approved by Full Council on Monday 2 March 2020. It was agreed that the Proposed Plan, Proposed Delivery Programme and Strategic Environmental Assessment would be published for a 12 week consultation period.

On 20 May 2020 the consultation opens. The period for making representation has been extended to over 14 weeks and will close at 11:59 pm on 31 August 2020

You now have the opportunity to submit representations on the Proposed Plan, Proposed Delivery Programme and Environmental Report which comprises the Strategic Environmental Assessment and the Habitat Regulations Appraisal. These can be viewed on our website.

Representations should be concise, generally no more than 2,000 words, (plus limited supporting documents). They should fully explain the issues you wish to be considered as there is unlikely to be an opportunity to expand on these comments at a later stage. Representations must include a name and contact information (postal or email) to be considered valid. Anonymous comments cannot form part of the Examination.

Comments can be submitted to us online at: proposedplan2020
or by email to:

Postal submission should follow the guidance given in the 'How do I respond?' section of our Advice Note

The implications of The Coronavirus (Scotland) Act 2020 as well the national policy of social/physical distancing means there will be no public meetings or drop-in sessions for the duration of social/physical distancing policy as they may give rise to a significant risk of the transmission of coronavirus. Where possible, correspondence, communication and publicity (including public inspection of documents) will be by electronic means.

Timetable and Next Steps

Aberdeen City Council produces a Development Plan Scheme (DPS) every year. This document sets out the programme for preparing and reviewing the Local Development Plan, and what is likely to be involved at each stage. The DPS2020 has been published. It takes account of the legislation put in place through the Coronavirus (Scotland) Act 2020.  The DPS2020 and previous DPS can be viewed on our websitehere
