Happy Holidays

During this Holiday season, we wish you, your team and your families a season filled with joy and gratitude.

Each year, the APEX team takes time to show our joy and gratitude with our community. This year, we helped students from Homecroft Elementary School’s YMCA KEY Zone after school program make tied fleece lap blankets. The blankets were then donated to a local memory care home.

Whether you’re spending the Holidays here in the region or on the road this year, the APEX team wishes you safe travels and meaningful engagement.

A Year in Review

As 2018 closes, APEX is proud to share the accomplishments for the year. Our talented team is dedicated to serving our mission of driving investment in the APEX Region. Here’s a snapshot:
  • Managed a robust deal sheet with more than 35 projects at various stages of completion: Five of these projects met major milestones in 2018
  • Lead and engaged several studies to maintain consistent progress with retention and expansion of local companies and workforce development: Both the Talent Forecast and Mass Timber studies will be completed in early 2019
  • Identified opportunities for regional growth related to water resources: APEX has identified a three-pronged approach to this market including a focus on Big Data/water information, research of commercialization with UMD’s Natural Resources Research Institute (NRRI), and identification of companies negatively impacted by water stress in other locations for expansion in the APEX Region
  • Completed business retention and expansion meetings within the APEX Region to assess trends and identify companies in need of regional economic development resources: Met the goal of conducting 48 business visits, including 30 with APEX investor-members
  • Welcomed 8 new APEX investor-members: Hunt Electric, American Engineering Testing, Gardner Builders, DSGW Architects, Bay West, MPPL Financial, North Shore Title and Barko Hydraulics

Tamara Lowney to Lead Itasca Economic Development Corporation

We could not be more thrilled to announce Tamara Lowney, APEX Senior Business Developer, has been selected as the next President of the Itasca Economic Development Corporation (IEDC). In September, the IEDC Board of Directors launched a national search for the position. After a thorough process involving several rounds of interviews, Tamara was selected to lead the organization.

For the past 10 years, APEX has cultivated our relationship with the IEDC, currently performing several business recruitment, expansion, retention and workforce initiatives for the organization in Itasca County. Our team looks forward to even stronger collaboration and communication moving forward.
