God may use a friend, a colleague, or an immediate family member to speak to us.
I have “heard” God speak to me numerous times through other people. After I completed my undergraduate degree in 2007, I was not sure if I should pursue a career in healthcare or become a songwriter/music producer. Amidst the uncertainty, God sent a family friend (Matthew) who convinced and helped me secure my first job as a Clinical Laboratory scientist in a University hospital in Cameroon. After about 6 months of working in the University hospital, the Director of the University offered me a Faculty position in the Department of Clinical Laboratory Sciences. During my tenure as Lecturer, I had the opportunity to teach several biomedical science courses. In 2012, I was admitted into the master’s in biomedical science program of the John A. Burns School of Medicine, University of Hawaii. When we started classes I was very familiar with all of the courses that I was taking. This is because while in Cameroon I taught most of those courses during my tenure as Lecturer in the Department of Clinical Lab Sciences. Thus, I was able to perform exceptionally well during my first semester in the master’s program finishing with a 4.0 GPA. This caught the attention of my Professors and they recommended to the Department Chair that I should be promoted directly into the Ph.D. program. In 2013, I was promoted into the Ph.D. program. I do believe that God used our family friend (Matthew) in 2007 to direct my career which facilitated my academic path.
