Marijuana for Meditation

I could go on about the physical and mental benefits of meditation but, I don’t want to. I want to talk about weed so, if you’re interested, here’s a link to a great little website with a quick, easy-to-read page about all the wonderful advantages of mindfulness and meditation, of which, there are many.

Now in my opinion, meditation doesn’t have to mean sitting in lotus position, chanting Ohm. I think meditation can be a range of activities that give you a “flow” experience. Flow is defined as any activity in which you are living fully in the moment, entirely engaged and immersed in an activity. For me, it can be taking a walk with the dog, doing an art project, practicing yoga, coloring, cleaning the house, sitting in lotus position, chanting Ohm. Again, I’m here to speak stoner so, go below to get all sciencey about flow.

Below are some strains that I think are really well balanced to take your meditation or flow activity to the next level.

Lavender- (Indica)
Parent Strains
Super Skunk (Indica)
Afghani (Indica)
South Asian Indica (Indica)
Hawaiian (Sativa)

A heavy indica, this herbal, floral, smelling bud has a sweet pull and spicy exhale. Finishing very earthy and rich, it has an energized but very chill and relaxed head high with a splendid humming, all over body high. This bud lends itself very well to meditation with that buzzy body high as a great way to stay grounded, while that clear and calm head high is wonderful for maintaining peaceful, happy thoughts. This all over body high is wonderful for yoga practice or gentle stretching as well and might be a fun toke before playing video games.

Blue Dream-(Sativa Dom. Hybrid)
Parent Strains
Blueberry (Indica)
Haze (Sativa)

With its sweet, berry aroma and pull, this bud is super balanced and induces moments of light-hearted euphoria with a relaxed body high. It maintains a wonderful, long-lasting energy and is great for creativity. I’ve been recreationally coloring for years with this bud and studies are showing the benefits of coloring, comparing it to meditation and recommending it as a potential relaxation technique for adults. Get out your colored pencils and take that mega bong rip kids, coloring is the new Ohm.

Girl Scout Cookies-(Hybrid)
Parent Strains
OG Kush (Indica Dom. Hybrid)
Durban Poison (Sativa)

Notoriously high in THC, this strain packs an introspective, heady euphoria with a tension relaxing muscle high. Sweet and earthy, this bud is heavy hitting and will launch you within a couple of hits. Kick back, put on some music and close your eyes, this high warps time and allows for deep, contemplative and content meditation. Focus on your breath and take a walk, read a book, watch a movie, this bud is stoney without leaving you sedated or couchy.

AK-47- (Sativa)
Parent Strains
South American (Sativa)
Mexican (Sativa)
Thai (Sativa)
Afghani (Indica)

Clear, energetic and long-lasting alertness are the cerebral effects of this somewhat sour, earthy and slightly floral strain. A bit contradictory with a name like AK-47, it is both chill and introspective. The high energy, heady and euphoric qualities of this high can be powerful connectors to the Divine but use caution, if you’re prone to anxiety or paranoia, stick with the Lavender or Blue Dream. I love this bud for a forest walk or hike. It’s also brilliant on clean the house day. Just a couple of hits and I’m in it to win it, dust bunnies and toilet scum watch out, equipped with my AK-47, imma destroy you.
Macro Shot of Trichomes

Dope Dictionary!

TRICHOMES
Trichomes are the small and sometimes nearly microscopic resinous glands, stalks and hairs that cover the flowers and leaves of the cannabis plant. Believed to have evolved as a way to protect the plant from insects and animals, trichomes are now also thought to inhibit the growth of some fungi as well as provide protection from high winds and low humidity. Trichomes are where terpenes and cannabinoids (THC and CBD), are created and secreted. Fun Fact: the next time you're dusting your bowl with a little kief, keep in mind that you're really toking on the decapitated heads of trichomes. Murderer.

CANNABINOIDS
a class of diverse chemical compounds that are active in the marijuana plantThere are at least 85 different known cannabinoids isolated from cannabis, all exhibiting varied effects on the body.
THC
tetrahydrocannabidinol- one of most abundant cannabinoids in marijuana, THC is responsible for its psychoactive, "high" effects. Fun Fact: higher percentages of THC in bud, (24%-30%), make for a quicker onset, "higher" high. Lower percentages, (13%-23%) might take longer to take effect but will eventually get you there and often last a little longer.

CBD
Cannabidiol-an abundant cannabinoid of marijuana, CBD has wider scope of potential medical applications over THC. CBD is effective in treating neuropathic pain caused by MS, Diabetes, Lupus, cancer and other injuries. It is used also to combat anxiety, seizures, sleeplessness and nausea. High CBD items we carry include Spot dark and milk chocolate squares and Fairwinds CBD Tinctures.

Think before you eat

Edibles can be a fun way to ingest marijuana without smoking. However, proper caution must be taken to ensure that the resulting feeling is not too overwhelming (so that no one encounters a “bad trip”). Bad trips can happen to anyone, even those with plenty smoking experience. This feeling of overwhelmingness usually occurs when someone intakes too high of a dosage of THC. When eaten, THC gets metabolized by the liver, resulting in a slightly different compound than when smoking it. The result is a slower onset, and often a heavier feeling of intoxication. Edible products take anywhere between 30 minutes and 2 hours to fully take effect and can last several hours beyond that. The key takeaway here: start off small and be patient.

Recreational cannabis edibles are usually a standard 10mg serving. If you’re trying edibles for the first time, limiting yourself to this dosage is the best way to ensure a pleasant experience. Even if 10mg doesn’t give you your desired feeling, there’s always next time! Just gradually increase the dose until you achieve your desired results. Also note that different edible products will affect your body in different ways. For example, baked goods often take longer to digest than liquids. Therefore, the high from a special brownie may take longer to kick in and last much longer than liquid or less solid edibles. Other factors such as your metabolism and tolerance will also affect the way edibles make you feel. The point is, edibles can be tons of fun when used correctly. Don’t be afraid to experiment and try new things. And remember to consult with your local budtender to find the products that are right for you. Click the links below for more information.
