Why am I getting so high?

Why am I getting so high?

Cannabis has many unique qualities. The only way to maintain the natural fragrance and flavors is proper handling. Much of the memorable experience and heightened effect comes from terpenes. Approximately 200 terpenes have been identified in Cannabis. Curing your Cannabis properly is the only way to ensure you enjoy the natural fragrances of each strain specific.

"Terpenes (isoprenoids) are small molecules that consist of repeating units of a compound called isoprene. Terpenes play many important roles in the plant kingdom from deterring insect predation, protection from environmental stresses and as chemical raw materials for more complex molecules, like cannabinoids." sclabs- See more at: http://sclabs.com/learn/terpenes.html

We currently carry the following strains:
1) Pinene: Jack Herer, Dutch Treat, Blue Dream, OG Kush
2) Caryophllene: Girl Scout Cookies,White Widow, OG Kush, Bubba Kush, Chemdog
3) Limonene: OG Kush, Sour Diesel, Super Lemon Haze, Trainwreck, Bubba Kush
4) Linlool: Lavender, skywalker OG, Kush
5) Myrcene: Blue Dream, Green Crack, Alien OG Kush, Grand Daddy Purple, Northern Lights
6) Humulene: Girl Scout cookies, White widow, OG Kush, Sour Diesel

Choosing the right strain to fit each occasion is something only your body can tell you.

It will take some time and effort to find the core set of strains that work for your body on a regular basis. You may find the same strain may not work the same way it once did after repeated use.

(TIP: enjoying a variety of strains will help to keep your body from building up a tolerance to specific strains.)
Curing your Cannabis

"It is unlikely you have ever encountered cured weed if you have only ever bought commercially grown harvests - unless you are particularly lucky. You will find that most people who grow to sell will dry their harvests quickly without any curing involved, this is in order to get the fastest turnaround possible in order to maximize profit – which is fair enough if you are trying to run a business. There are the odd few commercial growers who do cure, but it is a rare thing. The end result of this though is a product that can often be quite harsh to smoke and have a reduced potency; and whilst it may seem dry on the outside, the fast drying techniques used often leave the rest of the bud overly damp and hard to burn. That is why you will find a connoisseur cultivators own stash is of such a high quality, it has been created for their ultimate enjoyment and has been treated and cured accordingly." (TIP: Curing at home! Use an airtight container that blocks out the light. Keep your cannabis in a dark area at a relative humidity of 60% - 65% and a temperature of 50 - 60 degrees.)

Green Weed!

It's hard to tell if your cannabis has been cured if you don't know the harvest date or what to look for. Luckily the Washington i502 industry has required all packages of flower to contain the harvest date. Generally, a harvested plant can take up to 14 days to dry depending on quantity and conditions. Curing then can take an additional 1-3 months. (Cannabis stored for long periods of time should be cured at least 3 months.) Containers containing flowers being cured should be opened at least once a week to promote oxygen exchange.

A properly cured flower will have a crisp outside and a moist inside. Crystals should be bright and not brittle. Chlorophyll has also been broken down during the curing process. Flowers will most likely develop a deeper hue of green from the bright color of a fresh harvest. Terpenes will become more developed as well as a less harsh smoke.

There is no right answer for when your cannabis is done curing. It will be up to you to determine the effects you're looking for.

At Higher Leaf we carry CVault storage containers which are made of food grade stainless steel and come with a humidity pouch that holds your buds at a consistent 62 degrees. Fret not when choosing a harvest date near or far.

 Best Buds

Frost Giant

This week, Josh the Budtender picks Frost Giant by Sasquatch because it has a pleasant berry scent and flavor, along with powerful uplifting effects that are reminiscent of classic Blue Dream. Being a 70/30 sativa-dominant hybrid, this strain is great for any time of day.
