Guides Association of New York City (GANYC) Reassures Travelers That NYC is Open For Business
NEW YORK (Tuesday March 10, 2020) — The Guides Association of New York City (GANYC) wishes to reassure everyone that New York City remains open for business, and our members remain available to provide the best NYC experiences available. While there have been around 2 dozen confirmed cases of COVID-19 (the coronavirus) in the city, with others awaiting testing, life goes on for its 8.5+ million residents, albeit with some temporary adjustments. NYC & Co has started the #KeepExploringNYC initiative to encourage everyone to keep exploring and to share their great New York moments.
New York City is, and continues to be, one of the world's best destinations. The city's classic attractions-- the Statue of Liberty, Ellis Island, One World Observatory, the Empire State Building, Broadway shows, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the 9/11 Museum and Memorial, Rockefeller Center, and countless others across our 5 boroughs-- all remain open for visitors. Along with these world-famous landmarks, consider adding a fun and informative guided tour of your favorite neighborhood or site from one of our talented GANYC members. You can use our Find a Guide page to hire one of our licensed, or even GANYC-certified, members.
Spring in New York City also means many special events, including the upcoming opening of The Edge at Hudson Yards, the St. Patrick's Day parade, the Macy's Flower Show, the Easter parade, numerous conventions, and more. GANYC guides remain committed to assisting all visitors (and locals!) looking to experience this great season in NYC.
Many have also contacted NYC tourism officials and guides inquiring about the fact that New York Governor Andrew Cuomo has declared a State of Emergency. Needless to say, this has led to an understandable amount of concern. To clarify, this declaration is a legal term entitling New York State to federal funding to benefit our health system to protect us even more. Such declarations are used for a state when region has disasters such as a flood or tornado, for example. So please be assured that this declaration does not speak to any extraordinary concern in the state relative to other areas.
The Empire State is open for business, and so are we. In addition to the great tours that our members provide, GANYC will continue to hold all our public meetings (such as our meeting April 1 at 6pm at the St. George Theatre on Staten Island) and our members-only fam tours.
As this is a fast-moving story, please keep an eye on these important informational links in the days ahead, and follow their health-related recommendations:
