The 2019 WAFLT Fall conference will be at the Northern Quest Resort and Conference Center (Spokane) October 10th-12th, 2019. Pre-conference workshop is on October 10th.
Submitting a conference proposal may seem like a lot of work but the return is rewarding. Here are five reasons why you should spend the time on a conference proposal and give yourself the chance to present.
1. You will learn more by presenting.
Presenting something you are passionate about and receive constructive feedback from other professionals, helps you to develop and improve your program. Experience gained from Q and A session is invaluable.
2. Raises awareness and interest for your program
One of the most important benefits from conference presentations is the ability to share your program with conference attendees including policy makers at different levels, national and regional language organization leaders, and teachers. If you feel your program has been underrepresented in the past, now would be the perfect time for you to present and advocate for your particular language.
3. Boost your resume for future promotions and opportunities
Highlighting conference presentations on your resume shows potential employers and advisors that you have experience in public speaking and have positively impacted your education colleagues. This coveted skill on your resume may be the deciding factor between you and other potential job candidates.
4. Enhance your presentation and advocating skills
Conferences provide a way for you to practice your presentation skills which helps you develop the expertise needed to discuss your program in a clear and meaningful way to other professionals. Your improved presentation skills will benefit you when advocating to groups within your school and community.
5. Standout from other teachers and get recognized for future opportunities
Presenting can be an important first step to opening doors to exciting new opportunities.
- Grant and scholarship consideration
- Award nomination
- More potential speaking opportunities
- Exposure as a leader or expert
- Your future employer may be watching!
