A message from Michele Anciaux Aoki and the WAFLT Testing Team: On behalf of the WAFLT Testing Team (myself, Paris Granville, and Donna Lansberry), I’d like to share with you a new professional development tool from one of our testing partners, Avant Assessment. This is a tool for teachers to experience what it feels like to get trained to be a rater for STAMP tests (or other similar proficiency assessments aligned to the ACTFL Proficiency Scale).
While the course is online and self-paced, I have set it up for Seattle teachers to have some Advance PD Check-Ins over the next few weeks via Zoom to keep them motivated and answer questions along the way.

Learn more at: https://avantassessment.com/advance

Pricing in BPT:
$100 -- Advance course license good for one year for WAFLT members, including 12 free clock hours for completing the course
$140 -- Advance course license good for one year for non-WAFLT members
$150 -- Advance course license good for one year for non-WAFLT members, including 12 clock hours for completing the course
I would love to extend the invitation to WAFLT members to join us, if you’re interested. The codes for the Zoom sessions are listed below. You can just attend one or more (for free) or you can also register to get an Avant Advance PD license for yourself from WAFLT BPT. (I’m still setting up the WAFLT Brown Paper Tickets to allow you to pay for the Advance course at a special reduced rate for WAFLT members. Email me if you’re interested and I will let you know when BPT is set up and then send you the Advance course access code.)
Feel free to share this with other World Language teachers and, especially, Dual Language Immersion teachers, who really need to understand proficiency in order to teach language through content.

About Avant’s Advance PD Tool
Come learn about Avant Assessment's new professional development tool for learning to rate student writing according to the ACTFL Proficiency Guidelines using the Avant STAMP Rubrics. We'll do a brief kick-off, then you can complete the course on your own. We'll aim to offer WAFLT clock hours (about 12), as well as a Certificate of Completion from Seattle Public Schools/Washington Association for Language Teaching for course completers.

This is really an amazing course. It is the foundation of what Avant uses to train their raters for STAMP testing. Teachers who have completed this course have been able to apply what they’ve learned immediately in their classrooms by being able to properly evaluate the proficiency level of work produced by their students. (The same skills can also be applied to Speaking.)
The cost for the year-long course license (you can practice and review as much as you like) is at a reduced price for Seattle Public Schools teachers and WAFLT members of less than $140. (I have scholarships for Seattle Public Schools teachers.) The online, self-paced course itself takes about 12-15 hours. Great summer project!

Languages for Advance
Arabic (MSA,) English, French, German, Hebrew, Italian, Japanese, Mandarin Chinese, Russian, Spanish
