On 6 March 2019, on the margins of the 40th Human Rights Council session, a side-event titled “Celebrating the 30th Anniversary of the Convention on the Rights of the Child: The Contributions from Religious Communities to End Violence against Children” was held at the Palais des Nations, in Geneva.

The discussion offered the opportunity to present concrete and practical actions implemented by faith leaders and communities to create safe environments for children and protect them from all forms of violence, including in the home, schools, places of worship, and the wider community.

At the center of the discussions was the critical role of faith leaders as influential key actors providing the necessary guidance to challenge social and cultural norms that condone violence against children, as well as influencing policies at the national level,  and working together with other faith communities and stakeholders to protect children from any form of violence and abuse.
