Literacy Champions

This month we’re kicking off a new program to honor our donors. African Library Project Literacy Champions support our mission financially. They care deeply about putting books into the hands of young people with few resources to develop their literacy.  As a Literacy Champion, your donations directly support our mission by helping us develop libraries in seven African countries. Without our donors, there would be no African Library Project.

In recognition of their support, Literacy Champions receive access to a range of benefits applied annually from one Harambee! to the next, typically October to October. Become a Literacy Champion and strengthen systemic change in literacy and education on the African continent, one library at a time. Ready to become a Literacy Champion?

Harambee! 2022 Recap

The African Library Project’s 2022 annual fundraiser gala, Harambee!, was held in San Francisco on the evening of October 22, 2022. The evening raised awareness and funds in support of ALP’s activities and programs. Ensuring that the evening was memorable were performances by the Oakland Drummers; music by DJ Russell of the World Famous; MC and Auctioneer, JaMarr John Johnson; remarks by Book Drive Organizer, Vaibhav Jayakumar; and an inspiring keynote delivered by Tumisang Ramarea. Overall, the event raised nearly $122,000 in support of the changing lives of young people in several countries throughout the African continent, book by book.

In October's Newsletter we shared that the 5th container made it to Kenya, and that it was promptly unpacked. Shortly thereafter, both Kenyan Partners, Rongo University and Kibabii University, conducted teacher-librarian training. Following the training, library recipients took the libraries to their final destination!
