edition 3
summer 2015-16

Can it really be the New Year? Things got pretty hectic towards the end of 2015, so enjoying a family Christmas was a wonderful thing. We also did some serious stock take of our home and working lives (we cleaned the house!). There is no such thing as 'balance' when what you do is what you love, and who you work with are your friends, mentors and collaborators.

This newsletter covers off some projects we are involved with but aims to clarify our thinking about staying true to your values in a rapidly changing world. In our latest blog "We need to talk", the focus is on why face to face communication is more vital than ever. 'Soft skills' are the key to our world of creativity and innovation. Great ideas come from knowing how to share and collaborate - so let's get talking.

In this edition:

* The changing face of Gartland
* Pivot Summit  - driving global thinking in Geelong

Don't forget that tandemVox at its core is a public relations agency. We focus on delivering communication and engagement strategies for organisations facing increasingly complex environments.

Looking forward to hearing from you soon.

THE CHANGING FACE OF GARTLAND
Bob Gartland sells to Michael de Stefano

We have worked with Bob Gartland and his team for several years. So when we were informed that founders Bob and Philippa Gartland were set to hand over the reins to Michael de Stefano, we were happy to provide strategic communication advice and support during the complex transition.

Part of the complexity was due to the residential property management arm being sold in its entirety to specialist agency McDonald & Co. Ensuring confidentiality, care for people and strong strategy was paramount.

The communication plan was meticulously and collaboratively implemented and a positive response was received from clients, staff and the wide community. The succession plan was announced in a story in the Geelong Advertiser in November 2015 (see below).

Now in 2016, Michael de Stefano asked for some support to  communicate his plans for Gartland's future. Using a simple but effective approach to audience identification, message development and engagement, we rolled out a plan for the new leadership team. As you can see, Michael is already making his mark on the established and well respected brand and is moving the office into the heart of Geelong's café culture (see story above: Geelong Advertiser 20 January 2016).

We thank Bob for his kindness and support over the years and now look forward to continuing the Gartland journey with Michael and his team. Congratulations Michael!

We need to talk - is our latest blog that explores the need for 'soft skills' in our world of hashtags, emojis and SMS. Pictured left is one of the many face-to-face meetings we attended to help pull together Pivot Summit 2015 in under four months. Ironic, considering Pivot was all about digital. It shows that genuine sharing, collaboration and innovation needs real people in real time!

Pivot Summit - a world class event with impact

In 2015, the inaugural Pivot Summit event brought Australian and international thought leaders together to share insights on the future of digital and its impact on how we work, live and play. tandemVox is on the Pivot Summit Inc committee and is a sponsor.

Held on 28 October in Geelong, the event engaged over 300 creative and digital professionals with speakers, networking and collaboration. Silicon Valley royalty Brian Solis and Robert Scoble helped Pivot Summit trend No 9 on Twitter on the day. Significant commercial sponsorship, local business support and Federal, State and Local government funding all helped in bringing the event to life.

The response from attendees and local stakeholders was extremely positive with 94% interested in attending again. This is great news for Geelong as Pivot Summit will play an important part in our new economic future. The experience of Pivot will impact, inspire and encourage innovation.

Pivot also helps promote Geelong. For example, an interview by Brian Solis conducted with fellow presenter Robert Scoble (both with significant social media audiences) was shared and viewed over 6,000 time across the world. This short video supported the promotion of Pivot Summit via two respected leaders from Silicon Valley as well as profiling Geelong as a destination.

What is the vision for Pivot Summit?
Pivot Summit is planned to grow into a multi-day, multi-site world class event with impact incorporating digital and interactive film, music and exhibitions, entrepreneurial innovation, idea generation and creative collaboration over the next few years.

In 2016, Pivot Summit is developing a program of activities and events along the following themes:
·         Digital Inclusion
·         Emerging technologies
·         Jobs of the Future
·         Entrepreneurship & Innovation

It's an exciting time for Geelong, so let me know if you want to get involved with Pivot Summit.
