Christmas Edition
2016 Overview

Dear friends, colleagues, clients

As 2016 draws to a close, we can't help but reflect on the year. Here at tandemVox we have been blessed with an incredible variety of work with wonderful people. Having your own business can be challenging, but we have been encouraged by the people who believe in what we do and why we do it.

Our clients are diverse but hold shared values. Values that recognise the importance of community: whether it was inspiring collaboration between retail traders in Melbourne, researching tools to help farmers adapt to a changing climate, helping jobseekers in Geelong, providing advice to local businesses to help them grow, or working with a range of not for profits trying to build better, healthier and more prosperous lives for all of us.

I hope you enjoy our update and please stay safe and well over the Christmas / New Year period.

Kind regards

Jennifer Cromarty, Director

On Monday 25 July 2016, the Geelong Jobs Fair was held at the Arena. tandemVox was appointed by the Federal Government's Department of Employment to project manage the event and conduct significant engagement with local employers and stakeholders. tandemVox also sourced suppliers and managed the project budget.
The Geelong Jobs Fair was a huge success with 400 jobs promoted to 900 visitors. Fifty employer exhibitors promoted their work opportunities including Barwon Water, the City of Greater Geelong, TAC, Karingal, Encompass, Worksafe, Corio Waste Management, Barwon Health and Opteon Property Group. A series of workshops were also held through the day.
In early 2016, tandemVox was contracted to run a leadership off-site session for the TAC. The theme was around change and the new world of work. tandemVox's half day workshop focused on organisational design in the new economy. One of the videos shown was about the 'responsive' model of organisations. If your organisation wants to understand the future of work - drop us a line!

Jennifer Cromarty has a rich experience in retail strategy, advocacy and research. From being the Deputy Executive Director of the Australian Retailers Association to writing, researching and publishing the Rural Retail Handbook for Rural Councils Victoria, her reputation for understanding the challenges and opportunities for Australian retail is well known.
In May - June 2016, Jennifer was contacted to hold a workshop and write a report in support of the City of Stonnington and their six retail trader associations with the aim to encourage greater collaboration and information sharing.
National Year of Digital Inclusion and Pivot Connect
As part of tandemVox's role in Pivot Summit Inc, Jennifer engaged with not for profit Infoexchange who run the national Go Digi program and created the National Year of Digital Inclusion in 2016.
Jennifer spoke at several key events during the year including the Geelong launch of the National Year of Digital Inclusion (NYDI) in February, the City of Greater Geelong's Communities Accessing Technology Forum in March and the final event for NYDI - the national awards evening at the Geelong Gallery in December.
During the year, tandemVox Operations Manager and tech wiz Robert Menaul, also helped out at the City of Greater Geelong's various 'pop-up' events to engage the community about digital technology.
NYDI culminated in the Pivot Connect event on Saturday 3 December - a free community festival about everything digital. Pivot Connect is the community engagement element of Pivot Summit in partnership with the City of Greater Geelong.
This partnership with Pivot Summit Inc and the City of Greater Geelong was recognised with a national award for Community Engagement Excellence at the National Year of Digital Inclusion awards night.
tandemVox was contracted to assist Deakin University with the preparation of a stakeholder engagement, monitoring and evaluation report for the Goulburn Broken Climate Smart Agricultural Development (CSAD) project.

The CSAD project has developed a spatial assessment tool to model regionally important agricultural commodities under climate change scenarios. This spatial tool will inform adaptation planning undertaken by Local Government and the natural resource management and agricultural sectors.
During 2016, tandemVox has been working with CEO of Corio Waste Management Mat DIckens (pictured above, third from left) on a marketing plan for the Geelong based family business. It is a real pleasure working with businesses that have the community, clients and staff at the forefront of everything they do. Mat is also heavily involved with local procurement project GROW (G21 Regional Opportunities for Work), and understands the importance of supporting local business for local employment. Corio Waste Management is a good news story for Geelong!

Jennifer was also recently appointed to the board of Anam Cara House.
Pivot Summit 2016 was held last week with over 500 people attending. tandemVox has been on the NFP Pivot Summit Inc committee for the past two years and has made a significant contribution to the event in terms of media relations, government strategy and engagement. For the second year, we secured three levels of government funding for the event and ran the EXP4Work program with GRLLEN.

After its success and Jennifer's personal involvement in the competition, she was asked to help Australian Futures Project with its national media campaign from June - August. With partners including NewsCorp and Latrobe University, the media campaign was significant. tandemVox developed media kits and releases throughout the campaign and provided strategic advice.

It's been a very busy time for local not for profit Creative Geelong Inc. Only 12 months since its inception, Creative Geelong is gaining significant traction with community, government and local stakeholders. As the President of Creative Geelong, Jennifer Cromarty donates time and expertise to the organisation in support of a range of projects and in collaboration with her skilled and influential board.
The Hubcaps to Creative Hubs project  - a collaboration between Deakin University and Creative Geelong has successfully raised over $15,000 via the crowdfunding platform Pozible. As a result, a series of short documentary films will be produced to document Geelong's industrial buildings being re-purposed by the creative industries sector.
FINAL THOUGHTS FROM JENNIFER
If you know Robert Menaul, Operations Manager for tandemVox, you will know why I'm writing this note.
Rob is not just the manager of all things, IT, web, financial and administration for the business but he is the constant wise counsel not only for me, but many others in our network.
Thank you Rob for being the patient, tireless, generous person you are. It's because of you that tandemVox exists and that we keep putting one foot in front of the other.
