the Vox

edition 2, spring 2015

Happy Spring everyone! It was a pretty cold Winter but now the blossoms are in full bloom, AGM season is upon us and we have a new Prime Minister. It's all about rebirth in some way.

This newsletter highlights a few things we've been up to but also places a focus on optimism for the future. Our new blog 'A pivotal time for our city and our country' talks about the impact of digital on our lives and the opportunity for Geelong to embrace a 21st Century economy.

In this edition we highlight projects we are working on that have a distinctly digital focus:

* The future is digital - Pivot Summit
* Changing the way we work - natr
* IPAA's Strategic Social Media workshop
* Creative Geelong - a strategy for Geelong's economic future

Don't forget that tandemVox at its core is a public relations agency. We focus on delivering communication strategies for organisations facing increasingly complex environments.

Looking forward to hearing from you soon.

Jennifer Cromarty, Director

Pivot Summit 2015 - insights on digital futures impacting our work and life

tandemVox is the strategic communication supplier and a Silver sponsor of Pivot Summit.

Set to bring global and national digital thought leaders to Geelong this October, Pivot Summit will highlight how future economic potential is linked to digital and creative industries and the opportunity for Geelong to be a key player in its economic transformation.

Leading speakers including Rackspace Futurist and former Microsoft Technology Evangelist Robert Scoble and Principal Digital Analyst for Altimeter Group Brian Solis.

According to Pivot Summit Inc President Leighton Wells, what isn’t well known in Geelong yet is the depth and breadth of digital related jobs and enterprises already in the region.

"Data shows that within the City of Greater Geelong alone, 6.3 percent of all jobs provided are within the digital and creative industries sector (10,745 jobs). With the manufacturing sector in decline, growth in creative industries is clearly seen around the world as a growing sector. Pivot Summit will have clear linkages to future job creation and economic growth.”

Pivot Summit 2015 will be held on 28 October at The Pier and engage over 500 creative and digital professionals with speakers, networking and collaboration. It is expected that over 2,000 people will participate via online live streams.

Pivot Summit Inc is a local, industry-led not for profit organisation with support from ICT Geelong. Key sponsors already include: Telstra, Deakin University, the City of Greater Geelong, Frank Health Insurance (GMHBA), Digitalsmith, Fluid, Geelong Connected Communities and Tribal.

Tickets to Pivot Summit 2015 are now on sale for $195.

natr: changing the way we work
tandemVox is working on a strategic communication framework for natr - a business of VicWest Community Telco.

natr is a high definition video conferencing platform already being used in health, education and not-for-profit organisations across Australia to increase productivity and effectively collaborate online  - anywhere, any time.

way we work is changing. With more organisations seeing the value of cloud computing and teleworking, more people are working from home, in transit or at their local café. We are part of a globally connected world and looking for technology that enhances our lifestyle with convenient ways to engage online in an organisational environment.

This article in Huffington Post explains that 'work is no longer a place.' "...we can bring the work to the worker, rather than the worker to the work, our lives will start to look different."

VicWest Community Telco is fifty percent owned by Bendigo and Adelaide Bank Ltd with a percentage of profits donated to the community. Working with VicWest to develop the market for natr will also help support community groups and initiatives. For more information visit

Geelong's creative industries future

In late 2014, Jennifer Cromarty launched a Facebook page to give voice to stories and ideas of Geelong's creative industries - art, culture, digital, writing, food, fashion, ICT and design. The project aims to:

 * Highlight the importance of creative industries to the future economic growth of Geelong

* Demonstrate the ability for social media to drive conversations, collaborations and interactions regarding shared issues, policies and ideas

* Support the transformation of Geelong’s economy

* Develop a community of interest to provide feedback and information in support of a Geelong Creative Industries strategy

The Creative Geelong Facebook page is the community of interest developed to support this strategy. The page has grown quickly and currently has over 4,400 ‘Likes’. The level of engagement and ‘reach’ has created deep connections and productive dialogue both online and among key stakeholders.

A small working group has been convened and early steps to develop some projects have commenced. If you want to keep in touch with Creative Geelong - make sure you 'Like' the Facebook page or email

Strategic Social Media
More than ever, you cannot ignore the impact and pervasiveness of social media in professional communication. While having a social media policy helps to guide governance, developing a strategic approach gives the activity a purpose.

tandemVox's Jennifer Cromarty is running a Strategic Social Media workshop for IPAA this October. The session will give you an understanding of why social media effectively engages audiences and why it is transformative in everyday lives.
