Cancer Is Not a Disease
When one thinks of cancer, there is an automatic association with disease, illness and sickness. This newsletter attempts to redefine what cancer really is. It is definitely not a disease in the classic sense and most definitely not an illness. An understanding of the true nature of cancer will hopefully lessen the stress and fear that a cancer patient, friends and family experience. Let’s start looking at cancer as something different than a negative health condition. Instead, cancer can be viewed as an injury or malfunction caused by an externally induced event. Maybe looking at cancer as a condition caused by something outside of us rather than from within us is a good mindset to keep a healthy perspective and to stay out of fear.
Mainstream oncology prefers to keep us believing that cancer is a disease and that drugs are the only treatment option. Our overall allopathic medical system is purely drug oriented so why should oncology be any different. A drug for diabetes, a drug for hypertension, a drug for arthritis, a drug for cardiovascular disease and a drug for every imaginable and manufactured ailment. We are absolutely bamboozled and hoodwinked by what we refer to as modern medicine. Fortunately, there is a growing awareness among the public about natural alternatives and there is an emergence of medical doctors utilizing a nutrition centered approach to treating chronic diseases.
What is cancer?
Cancer is a disfunction at the cellular level within a specific population of cells. It is not a global dysfunction or due to any particular nutritional deficiency. The classic definition of cancer is uncontrolled cell growth or resistance to apoptosis. The symptom of cancer is the growth of solid tumor or in the case of blood cancers, liquid tumor. The tumor is the site of the cellular dysfunction and the rest of the body may be completely cancer free unless the cancer has metastasized to other areas of the body. Cancer does have the propensity to metastasize and typically at a very early stage in tumor development so it can become a widespread condition affecting multiple organs.
NORI has worked with hundreds of cancer patients and over 90% are very healthy individuals in every respect. Their immune systems are fully functional, all of their blood work is well within normal limits (except for tumor markers) and they feel great. The patients with stage IV cancers that have metastasized to their bones may be experiencing pain. Most of the time, there are no symptoms from cancer. It is difficult to see cancer as a disease when there are no symptoms and no other health issues. As cancer progresses toward a late stage, there will be symptoms but only as effects from the tumor on nerves and blood flow.
Cancer is definitely not due to a failure of the immune system for non-virally induced cancers. Cancer cells effectively evade the immune system and the strongest and most robust immune system will have no effect on tumor progression. There is no truth to the notion that all of us have cancerous cells in our bodies at all times and the immune system destroys them.
So, if cancer is not a disease or illness, then what is it? The best answer is that cancer is an environmental injury.
How and where does cancer originate?
Cancer originates in what are called quiescent adult stem cells. It takes damage to only one of these cells to cause cancer that is capable of taking ones life. Estimates for time it takes from the initial cell damage to a detectable tumor ranges from 7 to 30 years. This is why it is challenging to correlate certain events to the initiation of cancer.
Cancer is not caused by damage to nuclear DNA or is directly related to nuclear genetic expression. Cancer is the result of damage to mitochondrial DNA alone. Many environmental factors can irreversibly damage mitochondrial DNA. Viruses are a direct cause of up to 20% of cancers and these viruses damage mitochondrial proteins and DNA.
Evidence is accumulating that antibiotics are a direct cause of many cancers. Since mitochondria are very much like bacteria, they are susceptible to the damage from antibiotics.
Environmental toxins clearly play a role in cancer risk. We are exposed to so many different toxic cancer causing chemicals every day from pesticides, herbicides, flame retardant chemicals, food additives and GMOs. Ionizing radiation causes cancer. Diet and lifestyle play a critical role in cancer promotion. In the case of colorectal cancer, diet is a direct cause. Stress and emotional trauma do not cause cancer but may be involved in cancer promotion through hormonal growth stimulation.
Treat the cause or treat the effect?
Logically, it makes sense to treat the cause of a condition and not to focus much on the effect. In cancer, the opposite is the best approach. It is very likely that the cause is no longer present, the damage is already done. This appears to be the case with virally induced cancers, like a hit and run collision. For the other cancers, the onetime environmental assault was sufficient damage to initiate the process.
The answer is to treat the tumor by reducing as many growth stimulating factors as possible and selectively killing cancer cells.
What is most disturbing is exposing a healthy body to radiation treatment and chemotherapy which will assuredly cause extensive illness and poor quality of life. Does it make any sense at all to treat cancer with methods that create disease?
Even immunotherapy creates illness by completely unleashing the immune system which begins to attack and destroy healthy tissue.
It is highly doubtful that mainstream oncology will incorporate a nutritional approach to cancer treatment within our lifetime. The system is only interested in the bottom line which is profit. The FDA approves new cancer drugs solely on progression free survival statistics meaning that these drugs may have no effect on overall survival. The cost of these new drugs is obscene at greater than $10,000 USD per month with no survival benefit. Big pharma is nothing more than a corporate monopoly supported by the FDA, American Cancer Society, National Cancer Institute and the American Medical Association. There have been more than enough books and documentary films exposing this criminal medical cartel. It is not the mission of NORI to state anything further on these issues except to share the facts to help patients make informed choices.
