Is your child school ready?

For those of you who has a child starting school in 2017 and with only five months to go before the end of the year, it is now time to think about enrolling your child in the school readiness program. Our hightly successful school readiness program has been designed to help children with ASD navigate their way through school when they first start, which will provide them with a positive outlook for their continuing education.

The program encourages language development, cognitive, social and emotional development as well as improved physical health. The individual skills include things like taking turns, sharing, moving from the floor to the table and visa-versa and pre-academic skills.

Children who participate in the school readiness program gain the benefit of the school experience and expose them to the many daily rituals that can be hurdles for children with ASD.

Empowering them with experience enables them to learn the school routines more easily and gives them the confidence to succeed at school.

The next intake of the School Readiness program is due to commence on 29 September, so for more information and to watch a video about our School Readiness program, go to

Places are limited and bookings are essential.

Behaviour Support Services

Our Behaviour Support Services are led by Christian Parente, an Honours degree Developmental Education. Our Behaviour Support services stem from a holistic, person-centered approach, which means the individual is at the centre of decision-making, and family members, support workers and other key stakeholders are full partners in that process.

Whilst reduction of problem behaviour is an important focus in our Positive Behaviour Support approach, it is not the sole outcome of successful intervention: effective Behaviour Support results in improvements in quality of life, acquisition of valued skills, and increased community and social inclusion.

NDIS  Payment Issues

As many of you would be aware, the NDIS Participant and Provider Portals closed down at about 5pm on Thursday 16 June 2016 to accommodate end of financial year maintenance by NDIA.

Since this date many families and providers, including ourselves, have been unable to claim payment for services provided. We understand the impact of this has been so significant as to cause some providers to cease services and release staff from their employment.

We would like to reassure you that despite the bureaucratic and administrative issues preventing lodge menu of claims and payment for services, our commitment is to continue to provide support to our families.

Should you have any queries about your claims or payments you can contact us via
clientsupport@directions.org.au.
