Nelson Nature Fix.

Welcome to the Nelson Nature Fix - a regular snippet about Nelson's natural environment, and what we can do to look after it.  If you know anyone who you think might enjoy getting a regular nature fix, please pass this on and encourage them to sign up.

The Department of Conservation and Ministry for Primary Industry are working to contain an incursion of Myrtle Rust found on Raoul Island - the largest and northernmost of the main Kermadec Islands.  Myrtle Rust is a rust fungus from South America that affects members of the myrtle family. In New Zealand that means some of our most iconic species - including pohutukawa, rata, manuka and feijoa.

Conditions for spreading myrtle rust in New Zealand are ideal at this time of year, and  it could be spread by private boats entering New Zealand waters. If you think you have seen myrtle rust phone the MPI on 0800 80 99 66 or visit the DOC website .
