President's Note

Dear friends,

Another issue of the IMA newsletter reaches your inbox, we hope it finds you in good health and spirit. There are two updates to topics covered in our previous newsletter, which stemmed from our meeting in Orlando, Florida.

FIRST IMA WEBINAR
First, the announcement of an international webinar by IMA member Roger Dirksmeier with FOGTEC, a company dedicated to covering an important topic in mass transit: Increasing Fire Safety- A Holistic Approach. The talk will expand on how to make use of innovative technologies and processes to increase fire safety and efficiency in modern mass transportation systems. The webinar is planned for June 16, 2015 at 4:00 PM, European Central Day Time. The presentation will be recorded for those that would like to have access to the information.

We will be sending a separate invitation for all those interested on the subject. Feel free to forward the information to those who benefit the most. Read more.

2015 IMA - CONFERENCE, LAS VEGAS, NEVADA, USA
With the title of Think Elevated – Move with Monorail, the 2015 IMA Conference in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA will take place from Thursday, November 5th to Sunday, November 8th. There is a ‘call for paper’ issued to encourage the submission of papers featuring Current Projects, Urban Mobility Session, Technology Session, and Operational Session. The event will also allow us to cover ground on the technical workshop area pursuing content to be presented to the ASCE, APM group document ASCE 21. Note, this was the work started in Wuppertal last year. The event will feature visits to local Monorail and APM systems. Last words to congratulate our friends at Daegu Urban Railroad Construction Agency in Korea, who opened Line 3 to the public this past week. A special and warm salute to Mr. Ahn, Yong Mo, Chief of the Agency, who welcomed IMA delegates in 2013 for our Conference.

As we mentioned on a congratulatory note to him:
It is when people dream and work for a better future for generations that we reach the unreachable. The joining of forces towards the common good is apparent on this great project for the benefit of all involved.

Looking forward to many more monorails around the world.

On behalf of the Executive Council,

Carlos Banchik, P.E.
President

Monorail Marketplace

American Monorail

American Monorail, Inc. and the American Monorail Project are committed to presenting innovative alternatives to the current practices of mass transportation planning and development in the United States, by means of comparative analysis, community level planning and strategic application of monorail systems technologies currently operating in a majority of the world’s regions and continents. The Project’s central paradigm and implementation strategies intend to apply the international state of monorail engineering, design and operations to US urban settings and transportation environments through the American Monorail website, at americanmonorail.net.

The American Monorail website provides access to the field of transportation planning in a variety of contexts, ranging from a comparative analysis among current forms of mass transportation in the Comparative Matrix, to detailed discussions of Transportation Funding, Sustainability, Public-Private Joint Venture Strategies and Monorail System Implementation, which presents specific monorail system route run path videos extending hundreds of miles within and between California and Nevada cities and urban areas. Worth Considering

Many of us are familiar with Wikipedia and how it has become the clearing house of information for many facets in our lives. As most of you know, Wikipedia is supported and hosted by the non-profit Wikipedia Foundation. In our transportation world, the Monorail Society, an all-volunteer organization with its website www.monorails.org, has become our clearing house. New projects and ideas, facts about existing projects, construction photos and many more things, all get a place at the familiar website.
  • How many times people have enquired you about things they have read at www.monorails.org?
  • How many times have we referred people to look into the Monorail Society’s website www.monorails.org?
  • How many times have you sent information to Mr. Kim Pedersen, the Society President, related to projects you have worked on, or projects you have seen?
  • How many times have you been able to point with pride to colleagues, friends and family, projects you have been involved displayed at the website?
If you answered yes to any of the previous questions, this might be a good time to support the labor of the Society by becoming a member and better yet if you can, donate to it if you have not done that to date. It is through the support of all of us that this Society can continue to thrive and be there when we need it, it is only fair.
Flyda Mass Transit Systems

Flyda’s trains are designed to operate elevated, at grade and in tunnel, seamlessly transiting from one mode to another. The Flyda technology was patented but is now in the public domain and Flyda Ltd is no longer in business. However Flyda's technology continues to be valid and potentially hugely valuable for new urban transit systems.

Josh Emanuel of technology transfer specialists Pax Consultants takes a look back at the technology behind Flyda, a metro system with minimized infrastructure costs, which is now public domain.
