Highlights of March in YMCAs across Europe

30 YMCA young leaders from 18 countries, ranging from 18 and 30 years old, have gathered in Litomysl between the 21st and the 26th of March for the first session of the YMCA Europe Leadership Academy. Learn More

YMCA Europe Roots for Reconciliation turned 10 years old in 2017 and there could not be a better way of celebration than starting the year with Peace Work Institute Session in Tbilisi, Georgia! 30 participants from 16 countries across Europe will be with us to share the excitement and to join the generations of peace-makers that have gone through the journey with the Roots!
The Joint Council on Youth of the Council of Europe is currently meeting in Budapest for their 36th meeting. Learn more about the meeting and its highlights in this correspondence sent by our representative Tinna Ros.
The planning team of the European Staff Conference of YMCA met in March in Litomysl, Czech Republic and started the preparations for the event that will take place in 2018 under the name "HEART BEAT: Inspiration -> Desire -> Future.
YMCA Romania visiting Norges KFUK-KFUM and KFUK-KFUM Global in Oslo on March 4th: sharing about experiences, organizational development, project management and of course common cooperation for empowering young people and strengthening communities.
First week of March In Kiev, YMCA Ukraine had its national seminar for the implementation of the Strategy with participants from all the YMCA branches around the country.

March 17th, Norges KFUK-KFUM had the "annual dialogue and coordination meeting" with the Chairs of the main associations and branches, along with the Board and the management team of the national organization! 
First weekend of March, YMCA Scotland had its National Assembly with various issues and opportunities on subjects including Young People & Mental Health, School’s Based Counseling, Be Real Body Image campaign & YMCA work with refugees.
Between 18-19 March 2017 was held the National Council meeting of YMCA Romania. The leaders discussed about last year activities and the analysis moved towards this year action plan and planning the next strategic steps. A health check of each local member organization and national movement will be made in the next period so the strategy for 2018-2022 will be built on these results.
March 25th, YMCA Europe´s Planning Team for our 2019 Event met in London, looking forward to organize an amazing event to celebrate the 175th anniversary of the YMCA in 2019!! Stay tunned for more info soon!
March 17th, Hansjörg Kopp (in the picture with his wife Ann-Katrin and the Commissar GS Karsten Hüttmann) was welcomed as the new Secretary General of CVJM Germany. YMCA Europe wishes him all the best, looking forward to working together!
It is our pleasure to introduce you the the new European Ten Sing Group Executive! Patricie Pastorová (Czech Republic), Megan Bate (England), Philipp Guryanov (Russia),  Franca Kneier (Germany) the new Chair and Anna Aschjem (Norway).
On last Tuesday, more than 100 young people attended the British All-Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) on Youth Affairs around the topic of body image anxiety, organised by YMCA England. 
Over the course of the event, the role of education, the media, celebrities and parents play in body image anxiety was discussed. Read more about the campaign
March 14th, YMCA Europe met the European Youth Foundation during the Info Day dedicated to youth organizations involved with funding of the EYF. The European Youth Foundation is the main YMCA Europe partner and donor behind the new Leadership Academy which held its first session in Litomysl. The Leadership Academy will gather 30 young leaders and Board members from across all YMCA Europe member movements and provide training in democratic governance, human rights, project management, advocacy and representation.
European Sports YMCA Programme Group Meeting
The Brussels Office was invited to participate to the ESY Programme Group meeting that was held during the weekend of March 31st-April 2nd in Kaub, Germany. During the meeting, the ESY Group discussed their plans and priorities for 2017 and 2018. The Brussels Office presented in particular the European Funding Opportunities dedicated to Sport, like the Small Collaborative Partnerships and the Not-for Profit Sports Events funded under the Erasmus+ Programme. It was a very productive meeting, where the Brussels Office led the foundation for a structured support to the ESY Group in terms of Fundraising and Representation.
Youth Voices to influence the EU-MENA regions decision making processes
Around 40 young people met in Brussels between March 22 and 23rd for the start of the Initiative for Youth in Europe and Middle East and North African countries (MENA). The seminar was dedicated to discuss youth participation to policy making in the area, and was organized by the European Youth Forum, the Anna Lindh Foundation and was chaired by Federica Mogherini, the High Representative of the EU for Foreign Affairs, a sort of an EU Foreign Affairs Ministers. Lea Wisseler, member of our Youth Policy Group and expert for migration and peace and justice issues, represented YMCA Europe during the event. Through experience sharing and working group activities, the participants identified a large diversity of common challenges and priorities for both EU and MENA regions such as inclusion, women-empowerment, mobility, education, migration, environment, and radicalization. Nevertheless, for MENA-region youth the most important challenge was definitely the visa problems when entering Europe. Furthermore, the group discussed access to education and the lack of quality education, and of any kind of social programs especially in rural areas.
