Scotland’s Covid Community Memorial Programme renamed Remembering Together

greenspace scotland can announce that callouts will begin soon for artists/creative practitioners to co-create Covid memorial projects with communities in each of Scotland's 32 local authorities.

The Remembering Together website has now been launched at www.rememberingtogether.scot This will be a space to share information about the programme, current callouts for artists/creative practitioners and to access some of the learning that all those working on the project will be sharing from early 2022.

Remembering Together
Those that have been following the Covid Community Memorial Programme’s development will be aware that it is a national programme of remembrance managed by greenspace scotland, bringing together communities and artists/creative practitioners to co-create memorials for their area.

Supported with £4.1 million provided by the Scottish Government, memorial projects will be co-created in every local authority area to honour those that have lost their lives to Covid-19 and reflect communities and individuals own experiences.

The programme has been renamed Remembering Together, communicating the spirit of these collective acts of reflection, remembrance, hope and healing with communities across Scotland.

Callout for artists/creative practitioners
Programme partners will soon be issuing call-outs to artists/creative practitioners in all disciplines for expressions of interest in phase 1 of the programme. This is when ideas and opportunities will be developed with communities that could include gardens, physical structures, or work that is digital or can exist in many locations. These ideas will be realised in phase 2 of the programme, beginning later in 2022.

The role of the artist/creative practitioner will be to work with people in ways that are inclusive and relevant with the emphasis on co-creation. A brief has been developed between the programme team and local delivery partners for phase 1 of Remembering Together which will be open to applications in some areas from November 2021, with others to follow. Artists/creative practitioners will then be selected between January 2022 and March 2022.

Thank you to the programme partners who have brought their knowledge and skills to developing the projects in their area and who will be critical in connecting with communities to co-create memorial projects.

Artists/creative practitioners can find out about current callouts on their area page or on the current callouts page of the website. Opportunities will also be posted on the Creative Scotland Opportunities portal and will be announced by partners as they become available.

Remembering Together website launched
The Remembering Together website  has now been launched. Each local authority area has its own page on the website for local updates. There are also details on the website of Remembering Together events including online briefings for artists intending to apply to the programme.

Remembering Together Advisory Group
The Remembering Together Advisory Group met in November. We thank the members for their time and generosity in working with the team to strengthen the programme and bring their valuable knowledge and perspective to the programme.

Covid is still very much with us and will be for some time. Remembering Together aims to bring people together in remembrance for those lost during the pandemic and those still struggling during this time, with the spirit of relevance to our communities, awareness of what this time has meant for people, welcome to those who wish to co-create with us and to share honest reflections on what we wish to remember together.
