NYC Mayor Bill de Blasio has set forth, his plan to rezone communities like East Harlem to facilitate building more affordable housing. On Wednesday May 20th, residents & other stakeholders can be involved by joining in A Community Education Forum. The forum will be an opportunity for the whole community to be part of the discussion on the Neighborhood Study around the rezoning of East Harlem & the creation of new affordable housing. This forum is sponsored by Community Board 11, Community Voices Heard and co-sponsored by Council Speaker Melissa Mark-Viverito, Assembly member Robert J. Rodriguez, and State Senator Jose Serrano. Come to El Museo del Bario 1230 5th Avenue & 104th Street at 6:30pm-8:30pm. Everyone is invited, and everyone is encouraged to attend.

Contemporary Art Show Opens In East Harlem

Flux Art Fair launched Wednesday at the historic Corn Exchange building; East Harlem first contemporary art fair. The Flux Art Fair brings together art enthusiasts,patrons,gallery owners,artist & others in recently renovated Corn Exchange building located on the northwest corner of Park Avenue & East 125th Street.
The fair features nearly 60 local and international artists ranging in age, experience level, gender, ethnicity and background. Almost 39 percent are female artists, 30 percent are African American, 19 percent are Caucasian, 14 percent are Latino/Hispanic, 9 percent are Asian, and 7 percent are African.
With the curatorial theme of "The 21st Century Artist is a Nomad" FLUX brings together artists from South Africa, Japan, Peru, Morocco, Jamaica, Senegal, Cuba, Paris, Colombia, Iran, India, the United States and beyond.
