This past March Manhattan Borough President Gale A. Brewer released a compelling report to help small business's growth -Small Business, Big Impact: Expanding Opportunity for Manhattan Storefronters.The report shed light on difficulties facing the small business: high rent, corporate competition & real estate development. As we all know small businesses are the blood line of NYC especially the "mom & pop" stores & restaurants that keep the city running 24/7 & provided the services & comforts New Yorkers are used to.
Opening a small business in NYC was never been easy but with these addition obstacles are near impossible. As many open, many more close the same year. The difficulties that they face run from landlords issues, exorbitant rents & damages or losses without adequate insurance coverage. The report includes a number of recommendations, but the biggest one is legislation to ease the rent renewal process.
