Trash along East 125th Street

East Harlem is a diverse & vibrant community that has been living on the set of "The Walking Dead". If you walked on Lexington & 125th Street, you would have seen sidewalks filled with litter and urine, drug use, unsafe & disrupting conditions.
Here at NHEMA we have been consistently working to improve our neighborhood with the help of other organizations. Besides organizing family events, hiring additional cleaning services, collecting signatures for a moratorium on drug treatment centers, meeting with city officials and N.Y.P.D to work on serious conditions affecting the neighborhood ( sanitation, homelessness and use of synthetic marijuana). We have finally hit the roof; enough is enough. We are asking everyone that lives and works in East Harlem to be part of the Town Hall Meeting; to discuss & find ways to improve and take back our community.
Please help us improve the conditions of East 125th . Join us on Thursday, June 18 at Taino Towers Gymnasium24 East 123rd Street at 6pm.

P.S. In our last newsletter, we mentioned that we were struggling to improve the inadequate lighting under the Metro-North Viaduct at 125th Street. Good news! DOT has gotten back to us explaining that they are exploring lighting options right now and so we are hopeful that the area will be adequately lit in near future!
