CP Tech Center wins ACI award

In October, the CP Tech Center received the American Concrete Institute’s (ACI’s) 2022 Charles S. Whitney Medal. The ACI Board of Directors recognized the CP Tech Center “for its national leadership role in advancing knowledge, research, and technology transfer in concrete pavement and for leadership in identifying and advancing sustainable solutions and new technologies.”

FHWA Concrete Pavement & Materials Technical Feedback Group workshop held

On November 17-18, the Concrete Pavement & Materials Technical Feedback Group held a workshop in Austin, Texas. During the previous workshop in Chicago, agency, industry, consultant, and academic representatives reported the state of sustainability in their respective areas, and participants assessed the readiness of various sustainability technologies.

Talking concrete pavements around the country

Overlays, vibration, rehabilitation, and resilience were some of the topics that the CP Tech Center discussed as the construction season wound down.

  • The Mobile Concrete Technology Center visited the CP Tech Center in Ames, Iowa, to demonstrate PEM tests as well as other technologies.
  • Leif Wathne participated in an FHWA technical working group on pavement foundations in Chicago on October 4.
  • The National Concrete Consortium held its fall meeting in Detroit on September 27-29. John Adam, Gordon Smith, Leif Wathne, and Dan King all presented.
  • Dan King attended ACI's Fall 2022 Concrete Convention in Dallas, where he presented on updates to the VKelly test, served on a panel discussing experiences with virtual learning and instruction, and accepted the Charles S. Whitney award on behalf of the CP Tech Center.
  • Wathne also provided an update on CP Tech Center’s sustainability activities in the FHWA Sustainable Pavements Technical Working Group on October 19.
  • Jerod Gross represented the CP Tech Center at the Florida Concrete & Products Association's Pavewise Conference On September 20-21, presenting an overview of the Airport Concrete Pavement Technology Program including current and upcoming projects.
