Welcome to our newsletter! There's a lot happening at NBI and this newsletter will help keep you up to date with what's going on

Whilst busy with all our day to day activities and work we are also focused on the exciting and aspirational reform agenda of the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) and ensuring NBI can successfully transition to the new environment. We are committed to supporting families to prepare for and get the most out of the NDIS when it rolls out in Northern Sydney sometime between 2016-18. To this end we would love to hear about your hopes and aspirations and how NBI might best support you. If you would like to find out more please contact Carolyn or David at NBI.

We are always keen to get your feedback and any ideas for other opportunities for NBI to explore to better support you and or our broader community.

WHAT'S NEW @NBI?

Carers Cafe was launched in July on a wet and windy Friday morning.  Despite the weather and even a power cut people came to have a coffee and a chat, eat cake and share experiences with other mums, dads and carers from all over the Northern Beaches in a relaxing child free environment.
NBI will hold this event from 10am to midday on the second Friday of each month at Warriewood SLSC,

NDIS

NBI is ahead of the game when it comes to getting ready for NDIS. Read more on how CEO Carolyn McKay recently graduated from the inaugural NDIS Accelerator Program with the School for Social Entrepreneurs(SSE) via Pittwater Online News.

INDEPENDENCE GROUPS

NBI has been working collaboratively with CCNB over the last year in facilitating social groups with a focus on building Independence skills.
NBI are hoping to build on our experience and run more groups in the future. If you are interested in finding out more contact David on 9970 0500

STAR PROFILE

***Guy Leech***

He has been described as 'the fittest 40 year old on the planet' and he is definitely one of the busiest men on the Northern Beaches but we are delighted that Guy Leech has joined NBI as an Ambassador!
Guy will help us promote NBI's latest achievements and upcoming events, in particular the Pittwater Paddle fundraising event which has a special place in his heart because of his love of kayaking.

“After participating in the Pittwater Paddle in 2014 I am delighted to be coming back to the event this year. The Pittwater Paddle is a great fun event and raises valuable funds for NBI, a local charity that supports people with disabilities up and down the Northern Beaches. I’m really proud to support a community based event for such a great cause and encourage everyone to come down and join the fun”

PROGRAMS

Thanks to a grant from the Ian Potter Foundation NBI are very proud to launch the Youth ConneXions program.

We will be running a monthly youth group for 15 – 21 yr olds with and without disabilities to participate in fun and social activities and potentially get more involved in the community.

The program is kicking off with a free launch event on August 27th from 5pm-7.30pm at the Youth Reach Centre in Brookvale. If someone you know might be interested in this please forward this newsletter or fill in the online interest form: Youth ConneXions - Get involved!

The annual fundraising event is only days away now, 23rd August, have you registered for your spot on #teamNBI?  Its always a great day out with a strong community feel but this year is set to be even bigger with a beach festival at the races completion in Newport.  NBI is so grateful to al the people that walk, run or roll to raise funds to support local families and we can't wait to do it all again with you this year!

Pittwater Paddle

We are delighted to have NBCU on board again as Sponsors for the Pittwater Paddle.

Keep the date of Sunday 8th November for the second Pittwater Paddle event and stay tuned for more details!

NBI's AGM

Save the date for our famous Annual celebration of NBI (which incorporates our AGM) on November 18th, to be held at Mona Vale Golf Club again this year. We're not sure how we can top the runaway success of the band Everything Can Talk last year but we are going to give it our best shot so save the date...
Northern Beaches Credit Union have an exciting new home loan rate to celebrate 50 Years Strong, click on ad for more information. NBCU are supporters of Pittwater Paddle.
