Assalamu alaykum,

We have 12 updates to share with you in today's newsletter:

(1) Weekly Halaqas: join us every Friday for Tafseer Halaqa with Sh. Munir and every Sunday to learn the Fiqh of Business Transactions with Sh. Ismail.  

(2) Sisters Halaqas: sisters are invited to attend halaqa in English and Arabic this weekend.

(3) Toddlers Halaqa: our next program for children aged 3 - 8 will take place on January 8.

(4) Maintaining Your Eye Health: our eyes are the windows to the world, and important to our overall health. Learn simple guidelines for maintaining healthy eyes well into your golden years.

(5) OTF Workshops: join us for a series of exciting and useful workshops supported by the Ontario Trillium Foundation.

(6) Youth Events: high-schoolers and university students are invited for a Muslim Youth Conference this Saturday, January 7.

(7) Teens Girl Talk: the AMA Big Sisters Club invites girls ages 13 - 18 to discuss and reflect relevant topics on January 6 and January 20.

(8) Women's Fitness Classes: join now to meet your fitness goals and stay healthy.

(9) New Job Opportunity at AMA: we're hiring a caretaker at AMA.

(10) AMA Counselling Clinic: we are proud to provide a Counselling Clinic at AMA that is supported by the Ontario Trillium Foundation.

(11) La Leche League: La Leche League is back this Thursday with support for pregnant and breastfeeding mothers.

(12) Neighbourhood Health & Wellness Hub: benefit from the COVID-19 clinic, parenting drop-ins and dental clinic offered by OPH at AMA.

Weekly Halaqas at AMA

Join us every week to benefit from learning under Islamic teachers and Shuyookh to further our relationship with the Qur'an and improve our understanding of the deen.

#1a. Tafsir Halaqa with Sh. Munir Shalghum

Join us every Friday as we learn the tafseer of the Holy Qur'an with Sh. Munir Shalghum. We will be reviewing Surat as-Sajdah (Chapter 32).

#1b. Fiqh of Business Transactions with Sh. Ismail

You are invited to learn about the Fiqh of Business Transactions as Sh. Ismail walks us through Kitab Al-Buyoo (Book of Transactions) every Sunday.

#2a. Sisters Arabic Halaqa with Sr. Amani

Join Sr. Amani every Sunday as we go through Usool at-Thalatha. This halaqa will be conducted in Arabic.

#2b. Sisters Halaqa (in English)

Are you a muslim girl looking for a sense of sisterhood and having a good time? If so, please join us this Sunday, Jan 8th for a girls halaqa and game night. This is your opportunity to surround yourself with righteous friends and make lasting memories. Pizza and refreshments will be served. Spots are limited so sign up now!!

#3. Toddlers Halaqa

Our next Toddlers Halaqa for boys and girls aged 3 - 8 will be on Sunday, January 8th! Toddlers halaqas include Islamic stories, crafts and skits.

#4. Maintaining Your Eye Health

Our eyes are the windows to the world, and important to our overall health. Learn simple guidelines for maintaining healthy eyes well into your golden years with the AMA Seniors Committee and Dr. Badr Al-Qahtani (Cornea, Anterior Segment & Refractive Surgery Fellow at University of Ottawa Eye Institute & Precision Cornea Center).

#5a. Presentation Skills Workshop

#6a. Muslim Youth Conference

Youth are invited to attend a conference this Saturday, January 7 for a fun day packed with beneficial content, and food.

Open to all Muslim high-schoolers and all different university/college students!

#6b. Youth Friday Soccer

AMA Youth is back Fridays at 8 to 10 with soccer for youth.

#6c. Brewer Pool Swimming for Brothers (Sundays)

Every Sunday this Winter, we will be renting the City of Ottawa Brewer pool for children, youth, and men to enjoy swimming in a safe environment. This program is catered to boys and men of all ages with special accomodations such as all life guards and instructors during the swimming sessions being males. 

The weekly swimming sessions are organized by AMA Youth to create an Islamic and safe environment sensitive to the cultural and religious practices of Muslims. And it’s also an amazing opportunity to have some fun!

This is recreational swimming. We will not be providing training of any kind. Furthermore, fathers must be in the water with their kids below 10 years old at all times for safety reasons.

#8. Women's Fitness Classes

Are you looking to get healthier with minimal effort? Join us and our instructor, Dianne Thompson, to get fit from the comfort of your own homes.

Here are the details:

Time: 7:30 PM - 8:30 PM

#9. Job Opportunity at AMA

#10. AMA Counselling Clinic

To help our community to rebuild and recover from impacts of COVID-19, AMA Centre has launched a Counselling Clinic as part of the Resilient Communities Fund from the Ontario Trillium Foundation (OTF). We work with trained Psychotherapists who integrate evidence based interventions (CBT, DBT, EFT, etc) in their client centred therapeutic approach, thus providing top-level care and service to clients. 

We currently offer appointments at select hours on Mondays and Thursdays. To book an appointment, please email counselling@amacentre.ca.

We would like to thank the Ontario Trillium Foundation for their support to help us create programs and systems to help our congregants and community to regain autonomy and self-sufficiency.

#11. La Leche League

AMA is proud to offer support for breastfeeding mothers and pregnant women in alliance with the world renowned La Leche League. ⁠

La Leche League are experienced in breastfeeding and are familiar with the research and current findings dealing with breastfeeding.⁠ ⁠

La Leche League conducts a series of casual, discussion-style meetings that cover the practical, physical, and psychological aspects of nursing, offering encouragement and suggestions.⁠
