8th District GOP Committee unanimously opposes Proposal 1
Howell, Michigan - Today, the 8th Congressional District Republican Committee unanimously opposed Proposal 1. The resolution, in part, said, "[T]his Committee believes that there are alternatives in keeping with the statement from the 2012 Republican Platform, “Our nation and our people cannot afford the status quo. We must begin anew, with profound changes in the way government operates; the way it budgets, taxes and regulates. Jefferson’s vision of a “wise and frugal government” must be restored.”
The 8th Congressional GOP Chair, Tom McMillin said, "In my 25 years of activism within the Republican party, I've never seen anything like this - so many District and County Republican party committees coming out against a significant proposal by a sitting Republican Governor."
As to why this is happening, McMillin said, "I think Republicans across the state just can't believe a Republican governor is pushing this huge tax increase. They're baffled. Disappointed... and very angry. Most voters, especially Republican party activists know the state takes more than enough from their pockets in taxes and fees - they want Lansing to do their job and prioritize the money they have already taken from us."
The Resolution concludes, “THEREFORE, it is resolved, by a unanimous vote of the members of the 8th Congressional District Republican Committee, to urge the citizens of the 8th Congressional District to vote NO on Proposal 15-1.”
The 24-0 vote came at the 8th District's first meeting of 2015. The 8th District GOP joins other Republican Congressional districts like the 1st, 5th, 7th, 9th, 12th and 13th, along with almost 20 Republican county committees, including Oakland and Livingston County GOP, in its formal opposition to Proposal 1.
