Elder Corner

The news of the consideration of R.A. Atanus for the role of Executive Pastor last week came as a surprise to many in the life of the Church. While we are actively looking for a successor for the role of the Japanese congregation pastor, we were not necessarily searching for an Executive Pastor. As shared by Manny, his relationship and conversations with R.A. over the last months, and discussions with the elders, have all led us to where we are today. I could not think of any one person outside the life of CEFC who more embodies and is equipped to understand the diverse makeup of our congregation with his Assyrian heritage and Japanese culture and business experience as well as a strong role and history in two strong Christ-centered congregations.

Over the years, R.A. has referred people to CEFC because he has admired our Biblically-focused teaching, warm connections and ability to share God's love in the way we minister at the corner of Golf and Shermer. The elders are encouraged by his desire and skills to expand upon these gifts from God. I encourage you to attend any of the upcoming town halls or portions of the candidate weekend as you are able.

I am reminded of Philippians 4:6:

"Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God."

My hope for us is that we can be in prayer and petition to God regarding this important decision in the life of the church together during this month.

Influential Christian Works: Inspiration by A.A. Hodge & B.B. Warfield

By Daniel Schoof

In April 1881, A.A. Hodge and B.B. Warfield published an article in The Presbyterian Review called Inspiration. The purpose of their article was to defend the doctrines of the inspiration and infallibility of the Bible. Hodge and Warfield sought to refute the claims that the Bible had errors and that parts of Scripture were not God’s Word. Read more
