Butterick  -  36 X 36 inches
Mixed Media/Collage on Canvas

Greetings  <<First Name>>,

I hope you've enjoyed your summer as much as I have mine. Happy Labor Day to you as well, which in my mind always meant the end of summer and return of the school year on the following Tuesday. In Portland I guess it still does.

I recently returned to Phoenix from Portland, Oregon where I taught a workshop for the Oregon Society of Artists (some pics below). My wife and I stayed in a nice hotel near downtown and right around the corner from the OSA gallery and studios. So, I enjoyed walking to work every morning. The workshop was bunches of fun, filled with super talented painters anxious to extend their intuitive prowess. I have to say the workshop was a success based on the quality of the work by all in attendance. As a bonus during the stay in Portland, I was able to meet up with the painter Ruth Hunter whose work I have admired for a number of years now. Had a great visit with her and her partner Raymond over dinner on the sidewalk at Serratto's. And speaking of good dinner's, Liz Walker's husband Jessie made us dinner the following night at their home in Portland, and what a treat it was, great food, great wine and great company.

The painting above (Butterick) will be featured among others of mine in a two person show, Abstraction in Action, with Valerie McMullen at the Eric Fischl Gallery located on the Phoenix College campus. The opening is October 14th at 5:30 PM. Please be there if you can.

I received notice from the curator at Center for the Arts Evergreen in Colorado that my painting in the upcoming Rocky Mountain Watermedia National Exhibition has received an award. The curator won't disclose what award it is before the opening, but I sure feel good about it. The juror was Sterling Edwards.

Be on the lookout for the November/December issue of Watercolor Artist magazine, which will be released late September or early October. There will be a featured article on my work written by John A. Parks.
