Fall 2016 - Week 14

Here's what's going on...

Spotlight on Institute Activities

Dia de los Muestos Event Volunteer Report

"As a volunteer I had the excellent opportunity to partake in the culturally rich festival that is El Dia de los Muertos in Canoga Park. Throughout the day, I had the pleasant opportunity along with fellow volunteers, to be present in an environment that celebrated great Latino culture through several traditional methods. It was very intriguing to experience the different parades and beautiful music that everyone was able to listen and dance to. Thanks to the Institute for Community Health and Wellbeing, I was able to immerse myself in a completely different environment, among diverse people, meanwhile promoting the services the CSUN Institute for Community Health and Wellbeing is able to provide for the different demographics found at the festival. Overall, it was quite rewarding to have volunteered for this organization, educating different groups of people and the advantages that the Institute provides."

Last year the Institute of Sustainability hosted a campus-wide book drive to help reuse and recycle old textbooks, keeping them out of landfills. Collection bins were placed around campus and over 600 books were donated. Due to this success we will keep a donation box in Santa Susana Hall all year. Books will be turned in to Beer World Books where they will either be sold to raise money for nonprofit literary organizations or donated.

Matador Marmalade

The Marilyn Magaram Center (MMC) is pleased to present to the CSUN community Matador Marmalade, a student-developed jam utilizing oranges sourced from CSUN’s very own groves. Matador Marmalade was created out of the idea that a product made by the students, for the students, could generate school spirit and add to the university's great legacy.
